Antwain Holden returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown and Woodbridge High never looked back in posting a 32-0 victory over Lake Forest in Henlopen South football on Monday evening.

The Raiders (1-0 South, 4-0 overall) also scored three defensive TDs while registering their second shutout in the last three weeks. Monday’s game was originally scheduled for Friday but was postponed because of the heavy rain in the area last week.

Woodbridge’s Shymere Vessels recovered two fumbles in the end zone for touchdowns while Jamon Kane returned an interception 32 yards for a TD.

Terrique Reddick also ran 31 yards for a touchdown for Woodbridge, which held a 26-0 halftime lead.

The Spartans are now 0-1, 0-4.

Indian River 60, Seaford 20: The Indians (1-0 South, 1-3) collected their first win of the season in a game played on Monday afternoon.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for IR.

Volleyball

Polytech 3, Delmar 1: The Panthers won the first two sets before picking up the 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18 victory.

Pacing Polytech were Kaylee Williams (16 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks, 14 digs), Emily Campbell (8 kills, 3 aces, 18 digs) and Ashley Blaeuer (4 aces, 20 assists).

The Wildcats were led by Avery Wheatley (14 kills, 3 aces, 6 digs), Samantha Lehman (10 digs, 17 assists), Kelsie Hughes (2 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs) and Le’Zhane Holmes (6 kills).

Milford 3, Sussex Tech 2: The Buccanneers won the tiebreaker to capture a 16-25, 25-17, 27-25, 21-25, 15-7 victory.

Leading the way for Milford were Deanna Maloney (14 kills, 7 aces), Madison Rogers (3 kills, 5 aces, 12 digs, 17 assists) and Brianna Cahall (5 kills, 2 aces).

Cape Henlopen 3, Woodbridge 0: The Vikings downed the Raiders by scores of 25-17, 25-6, 25-15.

Logan Shuttleworth (5 kills, 8 aces, 25 assists), Sophia Spinelli (7 kills, 2 aces) and Abigail E’Nama (3 kills, 7 aces) paced Cape.

Delmarva Christian 3, Indian River 2: The Royals rallied to take the final two sets and earn the 25-17, 20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-11 victory.

Leading Delmarva Christian were Gabrielle Book (14 kills, 2 aces, 14 digs), Camryn Thompson (7 kills, 5 aces, 16 digs) and Olivia Berger (20 assists).

Boys’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 6, Woodbridge 0: Ricardo Hernandez tallied two goals and a pair of assists as the Riders (4-3) won their fourth straight game to go over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Steven Ferrandino also scored twice with David Haynes and Chikezie Ikwuagwu adding the other goals for CR, which led 4-0 at halftime. Goalie Nathan Reid made four saves to earn the shutout for the Riders, who finished with advantages of 27-5 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.

Delmarva Christian 5, Delmar 1: Bejamin Little, Joshua Azeltine, Sutton Bennett and Evan Timko all scored for the Royals in their nonconference victory.

Jamel Allen netted a first-half goal for Delmar, which trailed only 2-1 at halftime.

College soccer

Hens’ Prieto honored: Delaware freshman Fede Prieto was named the CAA’s Rookie of the Week.

The midfielder more than doubled his season goal total with three goals in two conference games against Drexel and Hofstra. Prieto singlehandedly led the Blue Hens to a 2-0 win over the Dragons with a season-high two goals.

In Saturday’s first-place battle with the Pride, he scored the team’s lone goal as the Delaware dropped its first CAA contest of the season.

Prieto is currently second on the team with five goals and 10 points.
