Delaware freshman guard Ryan Daly was named the CAA Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, earning the award for a school-record fifth time this season.

Daly has now won the honor five times in the last 10 weeks, breaking the previous UD record of four Rookie of the Week awards held by Alphonso Dawson (2007-08), Devon Saddler (2010-11) and Jarvis Threatt (2011-12).

Daly averaged 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds during the Blue Hens’ two conference victories last week, while playing 84 of a possible 85 minutes. He has reached double figures in all but two of the last 19 games, has now led the Hens in scoring during 13 of the last 16 games and led the team in rebounding in the last nine contests.

He currently is tied for fifth in the CAA by averaging 6.9 rebounds per game, while his 14.9 scoring average is good for ninth in the conference.

Girls’ basketball

Sussex Tech 58, Salisbury Christian 18: Rukiya Davis netted 14 points with Lakendra Harpe adding 11 in the Ravens’ nonconference win on Monday.

Indian River 35, Salisbury 24: The Indians built a 10-point halftime advantage before picking up the victory.

Sussex Tech 48, St. Thomas More 34: Mi’Cah Shelton and Janiya Stevens tallied 11 points apiece for Sussex Tech in the victory on Saturday,

Aniah Patterson scored 12 points for St. Thomas More.

Wrestling

Lake Forest 49, Delmar 27: The Spartans collected six pins, including three in a row at one point, in earning the Henlopen South victory on Friday.

Kurt Moyer (132 pounds), Dean Fleming (152), Trevor Shively (160), Gaij Copes (170), Michael Galloway (195) and Christopher Cordova (220) all won by fall for Lake.

Isaac O’Neal (113), Jamel Copes (120) and Maguire Free (182) all had pins for the Wildcats.

College lacrosse

Wesley picked 8th in CAC: Wesley College was picked to finish eighth in the Capital Athletic Conference in women’s lacrosse this season.

Salisbury, the 14-time defending champion, were slated to once again win the conference.

The Seagulls received eight first-place votes and 64 points. Mary Washington picked up the last first-place vote and 54 points to place second.

Under first-year head coach, Jillian Lontz, the Wolverines open the season on Saturday when they host Hood Blazers at 4 p.m.

College bowling

DSU 11th in tourney: The Delaware State bowling team finished 11th out of 23 teams in the Stephen F. Austin Stormin’ Lumberjack Invitational this past weekend.

Delaware State posted a 6-6 tournament record, 5-2 in Baker matches and 1-4 in regular team games.

The Hornets are ranked eighth in the latest national poll, Elizabeth Burkholder was DSU’s top individual performer with a total pinfall of 971 in five games (194.2 avg.) to finish 39th among the field of 154. Burkholder topped the 200-mark in three games.

Alexis Neuer was second on the Hornets and 45th in the field with a total pinfall of 952 (190.4 avg.). Neuer had DSU’s top single game of the tournament with a score of 223 in the Texas Southern match.
