It was a back and forth affair, but James Madison pulled away at the end to top Delaware, 67-56, in CAA women’s basketball at the JMU Convocation Center Sunday afternoon.
The contest was tied eight times with six lead changes. Delaware (10-6 CAA, 17-10 overall) trailed just 45-43 late in the third quarter but couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way against the Dukes (15-2, 19-9).
Junior Nicole Enabosi collected her sixth straight, and 21st overall, game with a double-double and neared a career-high with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Kiersten West came off the bench to tally 10 points and four rebounds.
With a 10-6 league record and two games remaining, Delaware has earned its ninth straight berth into the CAA Tournament quarterfinals round.
Baseball
Florida Atlantic 6, Delaware 3: Delaware led 3-0 early on but allowed four unearned runs in dropping the season finale.
Freshman Billy Sullivan was impressive again for the Blue Hens (2-4), pitching 4.2 innings allowing four hits and a pair of unearned runs.
After Florida Atlantic (6-1) tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly, the Owls added three runs in the eighth to take a 6-3 lead. Junior Kyle Baker went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored, while Nick Patten drove in a run with a double.
College softball
Delaware 5, Albany 1: The Blue Hens picked up their first win of the season on the final day of the Madeira Beach (Fla.) Invitational.
Mariah Kondravy went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to pace the UD attack, while five Blue Hens added a hit apiece. Kondravy tied Steinmetz for UD’s career home run record with 27 longballs
College lacrosse
WOMEN, Hartford 20, Delaware State 4: The Hornets trailed by only one after the first eight minutes, but allowed 12 straight goals in losing their season opener on Saturday.
Lauren Perry and Olivia Summerville scored two goals each for the Hornets. DSU was outshot 45-13 in the contest.
College bowling
Hornets win MEAC North: Delaware State clinched the MEAC North championship for the second straight year after winning six of eight matches in the final division competition of the season this weekend.
The Hornets were 3-1 in regular-team games and Baker matches to finish divisional play with a 20-4 record for the second consecutive season.
As Northern Division champ, Delaware State will be one of two No. 1 seeds in the MEAC Championship Tournament Mar. 23-25 in Chesapeake, Va.
Chelsey Merklinger was tops on the Hornets with a total pinfall of 760 in the four games (190.0 avg.), with a high score of 216 vs. Morgan State. Alexis Neuer was second on the team with a four-game total of 730 (182.5 avg.), including a high of 222 vs. UMES, tops among DSU competitors this weekend.
