Roundup: Fox Post 2 sweeps Post 10 in Legion doubleheader

Fox Post 2 collected 13 hits in the opener before sweeping the Post 10 Generals, 13-3, 5-3, in American Legion baseball on Saturday afternoon.

The Dover-based squad has now won four games in a row to improve to 13-8.

Joey Haass pitched a complete-game five-hitter with four strikeouts for Fox Post 2, which finished the contest with a four-run sixth inning.

Tommy Pomatto, Noah Lanouette (3 RBI), Trey Howard (triple, 2 RBI), Joey Wunsch and Sean Quirk all had two hits in the contest.

Pomatto went 3-for-3 in the nightcap with Wusch adding two hits and a pair of RBI. Pitcher Cam Turner allowed only one run in five innings to earn the victory.

Smyrna Post 14 wins pair: Smyrna Post 14 allowed just one run in sweeping a twinbill from DelVets, 10-0, 5-1 on Saturday.

Smyrna has now won five games in a row to raise its record to 13-8.

Nanticoke drops two: The Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots had a total of 10 hits in the doubleheader but lost twice, 2-1, 4-0, to Delaware Post 6 on Saturday.

The Patriots scored their only run in the sixth inning of the opener.

Stahl Post-30 2, Milford Post-3 0: Milford was blanked by Stahl Post to drop to 2-15 on the season.

Junior League

Camden-Wyoming 7, M.O.T. 0: Camden-Wyoming earned the shutout in its District I tournament opener on Saturday.

Camden-Wyoming plays again today at Milford when it faces Smyrna-Clayton at 6 p.m.

8-10 tournament

M.O.T. 17, Camden-Wyoming 3: M.O.T. advanced to the District I finals with the win on Saturday night.

M.O.T. (3-0) will play in the championship game on Monday at 7 p.m. at Smyrna-Clayton against the winner of today’s Felton-Harrington/Camden-Wyoming matchup.

The state tournament will also be played in Smyrna-Clayton starting on July 22.

Leading M.O.T. in Saturday’s win were Ian Keane (2 hits, 2 RBI), Garrett Overby (3 RBI, 2 runs, 1 hit), Paul Burris (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Mike Biondolillo (3 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI). Burris was also the winning pitcher.

Senior League

M.O.T. 8, New Castle 5: Pitcher Danielle Debenedicitis earned the win as M.O.T. won the opener of the state tournament on Saturday night.

Local bowling

Wiley tops qualifier: Terry Wiley, a former PBA regional champion from Vienna, Va., fought back from a slow start to top Saturday’s field of 31 at the Promotions Plus PBA Amateur Qualifier at Mid County Lanes, Middletown

The win earned Wiley, who averaged 208.33 over six-games, a return trip to Middletown to compete in the PBA Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic, Aug. 19-20. Wiley opened with games of 179, 186 but then went 247, 210, 245 and 203.

Also earning spots in the Carter Classic were Tom Norris (203.88), Elkton, Md., and Jim Johnson (198.83), Wilmington.
