Miguel Rivera singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the seventh inning to give Delaware State a 4-3 victory over Norfolk State in the second game of a MEAC North baseball doubleheader at Marty Miller Field on Sunday.
The Spartans won the opener 12-8, but the Hornets (3-9 MEAC, 5-25 overall) took two of the three in the series.
With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh of the nightcap, John Weglarz doubled to lead off the inning. He was still at second with two outs when Rivera (Polytech) singled through the right side to score Weglarz.
The Spartans had the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh. But DSU pitcher Darnell Maisonet got a strikeout before picking off a runner at first for the final out.
Maisonet (1-2) allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five and walking three to earn the complete-game win.
Adrian Hill (Polytech) singled home one run and scored another after hitting a triple.
Delaware State trailed 5-0 in the opener when freshman Cole Carey (Polytech) smacked his second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Garey (3-for-5) drove in a career-high four runs.
Delaware 5, Hofstra 2: Erik Bowren’s two-run triple in the 10th snapped a five-game losing streak for the Blue Hens.
Delaware (3-3 CAA, 14-14 overall) got five and one-third shutout innings from reliever James Meeker in the CAA victory. Freshman Billy Sullivan pitched 4.2 innings, allowing just one hit and a pair of runs while striking out eight.
Senior Calvin Scott lined a two-out single to drive in the Hens’ first two runs.
Wolverines earn CAC split: Wesley won the opener, 7-6, to split a CAC doubleheader with York.
The Spartans won the nightcap, 8-7, after scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth.
In the opener, the Wolverines (2-7 CAC, 8-15) scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 7-3 before holding on as the Spartans scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Deshawn Aiken went 5-for-7 with two RBI in the twinbill while Chris Seibert was 5-for-8 with four RBI and a homer for Wesley,
Caesar Rodney High grad Seth Brosius went 4-for-9 with four RBI for the Spartans in the twinbill.
College lacrosse
WOMEN, Frostburg State 14, Wesley 11: Fallon Fore netted five goals and corralled seven draws for the Wolverines in the CAC loss.
Brianna Bacon collected a hat trick and an assist while Bailey Grey registered two goals and three draw controls for Wesley.
Alexis Galloway and Francesca Benitez each caused two turnovers on defense while Benitez added a goal. Paige Brehm, Rodneisha Scott and Taylor Speicher each scooped up three ground balls.
Towson 16, Delaware 7: Junior Becky Gohsler registered a season-high four goals but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Hens fell to the No. 19 Tigers.
Gohsler added two assists to tie a career-high with a game-best six points. The midfielder also contributed a team-high six draw controls to go along with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Delaware (5-8, 0-2 CAA) also saw goals from junior Caroline Farley and sophomores Christine Long and Sydney Rausa.
Central Michigan 18, Delaware State 1: Lauren Perry scored the lone goal for the Hornets in the Southern Conference loss.
DSU goalie Elizabeth Henry returned from a five-game absence to record nine saves.
College golf
UD women second in tourney: The Delaware women’s golf team finished in second place while Ariane Klotz and Thitaree Sakulbunpanich posted top-three finishes at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday.
Delaware carded a 290 during Sunday’s final round, the lowest by any squad on the day and the second-lowest in program history. The Blue Hens, who fired 309 and 306 scores on Saturday, placed second out of 11 teams with a 905 total. Harvard claimed the title with a 902,

James Madison 13, Delaware 1: The Blue Hens (8-25, 2-7 CAA) scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning when freshman catcher Chayanna Gallardo clubbed a solo home run,
Wesley swept by Sea Gulls: Salisbury swept Wesley, 9-2, 11-3, in a CAC doubleheader.
Megan DiRubbio (Polytech) tallied two hits and an RBI in the opener. In the nightcap, Ashley Royer and Karina Cardona both went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
