Four players scored in double figures as Delaware State snapped a six-game losing streak with an 82-65 victory over North Carolina A&T in MEAC men’s basketball on Wednesday night in Memorial Hall.

The Hornets (3-6 MEAC, 6-18 overall) never trailed after scoring the first eight points of the contest. It was their first victory since Jan. 10.

Devin Morgan (16 points), Kobe Gantz (15), Devaughn Mallory (14) and Dana Raysor (11) all finished in double digits for DSU. Morgan and Raysor combined to sink 7-of-12 three-pointers.

The Hornets had only eight turnovers with 20 assists in the contest.

DelState led by as many as 17 points in the first half

Salisbury 81, Wesley 70: The Sea Gulls went up by 10 at halftime before handing the Wolverines the Capital Athletic Conference loss.

Wesley (6-7 CAC, 8-12 overall) stayed close for much of the second half, pulling within two at one point. But Salisbury (11-2, 16-4) stretched its advantage back to as many as 16 points in the final minutes.

Brian Cameron netted 21 points for Wesley with Jordan Johnson and J.W. Lawson adding 14 points each.

WOMEN, North Carolina A&T 68, Delaware State 60: The Hornets couldn’t hold onto an 11-point halftime lead in the MEAC loss.

DelState (2-7 MEAC, 3-19 overall), which was trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, held a 39-28 halftime lead. The Aggies outscored the Hornets, 24-11, in the third quarter.

Mikah Aldridge tallied a game-high 17 points for DSU with NaJai Pollard adding 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Salisbury 60, Wesley 50: The Wolverines led only briefly in the first half before falling to the Sea Gulls in a CAC contest.

Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points while Paige Hailstock added 11 for Wesley (3-10 CAC, 7-10 overall).

Salisbury (6-7, 10-10) led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter.

Wrestling

Sussex Central 53, Polytech 13: Jevon Saffold (113 pounds) posted a 28-second pin to spark the Golden Knights in the Henlopen North win.

Tyler Bunting (145), John Morris (220) and Mario Santizo (285) also won by fall for Central.

Cape Henlopen 49, Sussex Tech 15: The Vikings registered four pins in a five-match stretch to earn the Henlopen North victory.

Max Norquest (132), Mason Carrow (138), Dante Jaquet (152) and Cory Lawson (160) all won by fall for Cape Henlopen.

Chase Flood (113) had a pin for the Ravens, who owned a 15-3 lead after four matches.

Girls’ basketball

Cape Henlopen 45, Indian River 28: Sydney Pederson scored 14 points with Dania Cannon adding 11 as the Vikings won their second game in a row.

Cape built a 25-13 halftime advantage in the nonconference game.

Polytech 56, Del. Public Safety & Security 6: Yaa Afriyie (14 points), Elizabeth Horn (12) and Tamia Mathias (11) all scored in double figures for the Panthers.

Woodbridge 53, Delmarva Christian 36: The Blue Raiders (1-13) outscored the Royals. 17-6, in the second quarter on Tuesday night before earning their first win of the season.

Lisa Eck (14 points), Tykeya Nelson (13), Ronkeira Holden (10) and Mikayla Serpa (10) all scored in double figures for Woodbridge (1-13).

Camryn Breasure netted 17 points to pace Delmarva Christian.

Delmarva Christian 50, Red Lion 32: Elizabeth Stevens tallied 15 points to pace the Royals to the win.

Camryn Breasure (13 points) and Claire Marshall (10) also led Delmarva Christian.

Boys’ basketball

Cape Henlopen 71, Indian River 53: Randy Rickards netted 24 points as the Vikings picked up a nonconference victory.

Ian Robertson added 12 points for the Vikings, who jumped out to a 24-8 first-quarter lead.

Kevin Custis and Isaiah Bratton had 14 points apiece for the Indians.

Red Lion 65, Delmarva Christian 39: Andrew Workman netted 16 points for the Royals in the loss.

College track & field

Wesley’s Brown honored: Wesley College freshman Jasmine Brown was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Women’s Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Brown tallied four top-10 finishes at the Wesley Brown Invitational, held at the U.S. Naval Academy, this past Saturday. Brown finished second in the high jump (1.70 meters), seventh in the long jump (5.17 meters), eighth in the triple jump (10.46 meters) and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46). Brown’s high jump mark ranks fifth-best in Division III.
