Ursuline took control in the fourth quarter before holding off Delmarva Christian, 53-51, in girls’ basketball on Tuesday night.
The Raiders led by as many as eight points in the final quarter before the Royals finished the contest on an 8-4 run. A basket from Grace Fetterman pulled Delmarva Christian within 53-51 with just one second left.
The Royals (8-4) netted 11 unanswered points to open up a 27-18 advantage late in the second quarter. Ursuline, though, cut the lead to 27-24 at halftime on a last-second basket and was up 36-35 going into the fourth quarter.
Delmarva Christian, which had a two-game winning streak snapped, is 3-1 against Catholic Conference teams this season. Fetterman collected 19 points and six assists for the Royals, Evelyn Jensen added 13 points with Kandice Schlabach scoring 11.
Polytech 52, Sussex Central 28: The Panthers used an 18-5 third-quarter run to take control of what was a six-point game at halftime.
Jazmin Kellam (14), Maria Granitto (13) and Kallie Hopkins (12) all finished in double figures for Polytech.
Victoria Jacobs led Central with 12 points.
Caesar Rodney 49, Milford 17: The Riders tallied the contest’s first 23 points en route to the North win.
Cape Henlopen 65, Smyrna 21: The Vikings used a 21-2 second-quarter run to take control and improve to 11-0.
Morgan Mahoney (9 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks) finished with 21 points for Cape with Ella Rishko (11 points, 8 steals) and Destiny Kusen (7 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals) also sparking the Vikings.
Deleon Roster scored nine points for the Eagles.
Boys’ basketball
Caesar Rodney 68, Milford 43: Ten players scored at least two points for the Riders (7-3), who out-scored the Buccaneers, 39-24, in the second half.
Jaelin Joyner tallied 18 points for CR with Juan Jordan scoring 10.
Delmar 50, Lake Forest 38: The Wildcats snapped the Spartans’ four-game Henlopen South winning streak.
The 38-point total was a season low for Lake Forest.
Sussex Central 45, Polytech 43: The Golden Knights (7-4) picked up their fifth Henlopen North win by three points or less this season.
Woodbridge 63, Indian River 60, OT: The Raiders out-scored the Indians 12-9 in overtime to post their third straight victory.
Emanuel McCrea-Mosley finished with 28 points, including five of Woodbridge’s eight three-pointers, with Kshawn Cox and Bruce Mosley adding 12 apiece.
Gage Spinks (17), Brendon Bradford (15) and Ja’siah Rounds (10) paced IR.
Laurel 68, Sussex Academy 47: Dontarius Jones netted 25 points as the Bulldogs (3-4) ended a three-game losing streak.
Omori’Yon Cannon added 19 points and Nifere Griffin scored 14 for Laurel, which led 32-16 at halftime.
Tucker Antony netted 15 points for the Seahawks while Anthony Oscar had 12.
Newark Charter 46, First State Military 20: The Bulldogs trailed by only six points at halftime of the Diamond State Conference loss.
St. Elizabeth 81, Delmarva Christian 76: Jayson Handy netted 30 points with Gabe Herling adding 27 in the Royals’ loss on Monday night.
Delmarva Christian trailed by only two points before being out-scored 27-24 in the fourth quarter.
