Caesar Rodney High won its fourth-straight match with a 3-0 victory over Indian River in volleyball on Monday evening.

The Riders (7-3) won the match by scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-15.

Kim Glasser and Sara Cessna registered six kills apiece for CR, Lynsy Gruwell had two kills, six aces and nine digs while Ana Lucia Villabona collected 19 assists.

Carly Collins and Siera Johnson had five kills each for IR, Jessica Amezcua had 10 digs with McKenzie Johnson adding 13 assists.

Padua 3, St. Thomas More 0: The Ravens (10-1) lost their first match of the season, falling 25-13, 25-9, 25-15 to the Pandas.

St. Thomas More had won 13 straight regular-season matches.

Sussex Central 3, Seaford 0: The Golden Knights picked up a win over the Blue Jays on Monday.

Field hockey

Sussex Central 2, Delmarva Christian 0: Madison Sockriter tallied both Golden Knigh goals, less than a minute apart in the first half, to pace Central.

Goalie Morgan Burton made three saves to earn the shutout for the Knights, who finished with advantages of 29-3 in shots and 13-1 in corners.

McKenzie Waide made 25 saves for the Royals.

College football

Two Hornets earn MEAC honors: Delaware State running back Mike Waters and center Ernest Mengoni have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their play in the Hornets’ 41-27 loss to Florida A&M last Saturday.

Waters was selected as the MEAC’s Co Rookie of the Week after rushing 25 times for a career-high 150 yards, his first collegiate 100-yard game and the most rushing yards by a DSU freshman since 1984. For the season, Waters is second on the Hornets and fifth in the MEAC in rushing at 58.7 yards per game (352 total).

Mengoni has been recognized as the MEAC’s Co Offensive Lineman of the Week after helping pave the way for DSU’s 510-yard outburst vs. Florida A&M, the most by the Hornets since tallying 512 vs. Hampton in 2012.

The Hornets rushed for 325 yards in the game, their most since matching the total in a 63-28 victory over St. Francis (Pa.) in 2006. Last week’s rushing yardage included a career-best 169 by Brycen Alleyne, marking the first time DSU had two 100-yard runners in a game since 2008.

Wesley’s Lee honored again: Wesley College freshman running back E.J. Lee secured his third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honor on Sunday.

In the Wolverines' win over Kean on Saturday, he carried 15 times for 83 yards, marking the third consecutive week that the he has gained 80 yards or more on the ground.

The only freshman among the league’s Top 25 rushers, Lee currently ranks eighth in the NJAC in rushing (69.7 yards per game). In Wesley’s last three contests, Lee has run for 331 yards and five touchdowns.

College field hockey

Wesley’s Seymour earns award: For the second consecutive week, a Wesley College field hockey player was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week with senior defender Morgan Seymour (Smyrna) earning the award this week.

Seymour recorded six defensive saves in a 2-1 week for the Wolverines. She has recorded 19 defensive saves on the season, leading the CAC and NCAA Division III in the category.

College volleyball

CAA honors Hens’ Hollingsworth: Delaware senior libero Taylor Hollingsworth was named the Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Hollingsworth led the Blue Hens in digs during all three matches last week, totaling 68 for an average of 6.18 per set. She recorded a career-high 35 digs in Sunday’s five-set victory over James Madison, the third time this season she has eclipsed the 30-digs mark.

Hollingsworth currently ranks third in the conference with a 4.86 digs average, while her 1,402 career digs puts her just 37 away from cracking UD’s career top 10 list.

College soccer

WOMEN, Delaware State 6, Hampton 1: Five players scored for the Hornets, who got two goals from freshman Alexa Gibbs in the victory on Sunday.

DSU (4-9) scored five first-period goals en route to its best offensive output of the season.

Also scoring for the Hornets were Morgan Pottinger, Ayana Smith. Kalyn Fauntleroy and Elise Pratt. Gibbs scored two goals in a five-minute stretch, the first two of her career.

College golf

Chessher sparks Wesley: The Wesley College golf team used a first-place finish from senior Dylan Chessher (Caesar Rodney) to earn a third-place team finish in the Revolutionary Collegiate Classic hosted by Ursinus College at the Patriots Glen National Golf Club.

Chessher fired a low-round 69 (-3) on the first day and followed with a 71 (-1) on day two to finish at an overall 140 (-4) to take first place by 11 strokes. Sean Creel tied for second place with a 76-75-151 while Tyler Spielberger tied for eighth overall with a 76-79-155.

NCAA Division II competitor Chestnut Hill College earned the first place team finish. Wesley was tied with them after day one with a 309, but finished five strokes behind CHC on day two and took third.
