Caesar Rodney High grad Chimaobi Ikwuagwu netted a pair of goals to pace Wesley College to a 3-1 victory over York in Capital Athletic Conference men’s soccer on Wednesday.

The Spartans closed within 2-1 on a goal in the 77th minute. But Ikwuagwu answered with a goal just six minutes later to seal the win for the Wolverines.

The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for Wesley (1-6 CAC, 3-13 overall), which also got a goal from Nicholas Hood.

Goalie Kyle Springsteen made a pair of saves. Wesley outshot the Spartans, 6-3.

WOMEN, York 4, Wesley 0: Goalie Krista Salvadore made 16 saves for the Wolverines in the CAC loss.

NJIT 1, Delaware State 0: NJIT junior forward Neema Liverpool scored the lone goal in the 41st minute.

Delaware State goalie Leslie Fazio (Sussex Tech) recorded two saves.

College volleyball

Delaware State 3, Coppin State 1: The Hornets (2-3 MEAC, 2-19 overall) picked up their second win of the season with the 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 26-24 victory.

College basketball

Hen men picked 7th in CAA: The Delaware’s men’s basketball team was picked seventh in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll while sophomore guard Ryan Daly was selected second-team All-CAA during the league’s media day on Wednesday.

Charleston was selected to win the conference title according to a vote of the conference’s head coaches, media relations directors and media members, receiving all but two first-place votes.

Daly was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and selected third-team All-CAA last March after leading the Blue Hens and all conference freshmen with 16.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He appeared in all 32 games while making 21 starts, ranking sixth in the CAA in scoring and fifth in rebounding.

College bowling

DSU’s Burkholder honored: Delaware State senior Elizabeth Burkholder has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Bowler of the Week after finishing fourth among 116 competitors with an average of 215.0 (1,075 total pinfall) in five traditional games at the Kutztown University Bud Whitman Memorial.

She posted a high of 264, the second-best single-game score of the tournament; and also rolled a 253, fourth-best in the field.

In addition, she and DSU teammate Chelsey Merklinger were named to the Bud Whitman Memorial All-Tournament Team.

Tourney on tap in Laurel: The 8th annual PBA50 Bryan’s Bowling Center Open is on tap this weekend and will feature all of the event’s previous champions.

Ray Edwards of Middle Island, N.Y. is the defending champion. A pair of PBA Hall of Famers, Johnny Petraglia and Tom Baker, are also in the field.

Petraglia won in Laurel in 2015 while Baker won the inaugural Bryan’s Open in 2010.

Pro-Am competition is set for Friday with squads at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Eight-game qualifying squads on Saturday are at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The top 16 qualifiers from Saturday move on to Sunday’s match-play, starting at 9 a.m.
