Janiah Moore’s goal in the 73rd minute gave Caesar Rodney High a 1-1 tie with Wilmington Charter in a nonconference girls’ soccer showdown on Monday afternoon.

Moore scored on a penalty kick just 19 minutes after eighth-grader Sheyenne Allen gave the Force (8-0-1) a 1-0 lead with the contest’s first goal.

Goalie Kristiana Stevens made six saves for the Riders (8-1-1), who outshot Charter, 12-8. Both teams had six corner kicks.

The two teams split two meetings last season, with CR topping Charter, 2-1, in the Division I state semifinals.

Lake Forest 5, Hodgson 0: Hannah Fox tallied three goals and an assist as the Spartans (9-0) remained unbeaten.

Amanda Queen added Lake’s other goals. The Spartans led 3-0 at halftime.

Sussex Tech 2, Caravel 1: Michelle Laz scored two late goals just 10 minutes apart to lift the Ravens to the overtime victory.

Laz tied the contest in the 77th minute before winning it in the 87th. Leslie Fazio made eight saves for Sussex Tech, which was outshot 13-8.

Wilm. Christian 5, Woodbridge 2: The Warriors scored all five of their goals in the second half to rally from a 1-0 deficit.

Megan Joseph (1 assist) and Sara Davis scored the Raiders’ goals with Altia Anderson making six saves. Wilmington Christians finished with advantages of 22-10 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

St. Andrew’s 1, Cape Henlopen 0: The Cardinals edged the Vikings in a nonconference game.

Baseball

Smyrna 7, Wilm. Christian 3: The Eagles (8-3) scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and pick up a nonconference win.

Jared Gillis had a two-run double in the sixth before Shawn Dulin followed with a two-run single. It was Smyrna’s seventh win in its last eight games.

Newark Charter 8, Delmarva Christian 0: C.J. Wilkerson had two of the Royals’ three hits in their loss.

Softball

Cape Henlopen 7, St. Georges 4: With the game tied 2-2, the Vikings scored five runs in the top of the seventh before holding off the Hawks.

Hannah Jones had two of Cape’s nine hits while winning pitcher Riley Shields struck out 12.

Newark Charter 8, Delmarva Christian 0: Shortstop Camryn Breasure had a hit and threw out four runners at the plate for the Royals in the loss.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Caesar Rodney 17, Polytech 0: The Riders (11-0) stayed undefeated with the Henlopen Conference Northern Division win.

David Schmidt (4 goals, 1 assist), Thomas Aloe (3 goals, 1 assist), Sean MacLeish (3 goals, 2 assists) and Patrick Matsko (2 goals, 2 assists) were multiple goal scorers for the Riders. Tyler Gross made four saves in CR’s second shutout of the season.

Nathan Fairbanks had eight saves for the Panthers, who were outshot, 38-5.

Sussex Tech 19, Lake Forest 7: Trailing by two, the Ravens answered with seven goals in the second quarter and nine more in the third as the Ravens (7-3) won their fourth straight game.

Matthew Tull netted seven goals for Sussex Tech while Ian Calisle (5 assists) had five and Travis Quillen (3 assists) scored four. Goalie Jacob Ryan made 12 saves.

Benjamin Moore tallied three goals for the Spartans while Austin Aguilar (2 assists) and Carter Kenton both scored twice. Chris Wallace stopped nine shots.

Delmar 8, North Caroline, Md. 7: The Wildcats are 5-4 after the one-goal victory.

Red Lion Christian 12, Sussex Central 7: The Lions scored five goals in the first quarter and six in the third to post the victory.

College baseball

Wesley’s Speidel wins award: Wesley College’s Eric Speidel has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

A junior, Speidel led the Wolverines to a 2-1 week, batting .538 with two RBI, four runs scored and four stolen bases. In Wesley’s season finale, an 8-6 win over Widener, Speidel went 4-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

Speidel finished the season batting .319 with three home runs, all of which led off the game, and 10 RBI from the leadoff spot. He also led the Wolverines with 20 walks while stealing 13 bases to rank second on the squad.

College lacrosse

UD’s Finigan honored: Delaware sophomore midfielder Jackson Finigan has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week,

Finigan led the Blue Hens to a 10-9 win over host Massachusetts Friday in their season finale as he scored four times and notched the game-winner with 41 seconds left when he broke a 9-9 tie.

Finigan, who collected his second career hat trick, also had six shots and picked up a team-high four groundballs in the victory.
