Jared Cordoba’s two goals paced Indian River High to a 2-0 victory over Wilmington Charter on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference boys’ soccer contest.

Oscar Cruz and Wilberth Gomez assisted on the goals. The Indians upped their record to 12-2 overall.

Zachary Neal made six saves to preserve the shutout.

Salesianum 2, Polytech 0: The Sals scored twice in the first half as the Panthers dropped a nonconference matchup.

Men’s soccer

Elon 1, Delaware 0: Needing a win to make the CAA tournament, the Hens were shutout by Elon, eliminating them from postseason contention.

Elon scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to deal Delaware the defeat. Delaware lost despite holding a 15-8 edge in shots.

The Hens’ streak of five consecutive appearances in the conference tournament came to an end.

College cross country

Hens finish fourth at CAAs: Senior Liz McGroarty posted the best finish by a University of Delaware runner in over a decade Saturday morning as she placed fifth overall to lead the Blue Hens to a fourth place team finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships at the Elon Cross Country Course.

McGroarty, who led the Blue Hens for the fourth time this season, posted a time of 21:39.19 over the six-kilometer course to place fifth overall in the 85-runner field. Her finish was the best for a Blue Hen since since Colleen O’Brien placed third overall at the 2005 CAA Championships. McGroarty improved upon her 37th place showing at the 2016 CAA meet.

Delaware placed fourth overall as a team, its best finish since the 2013 season, with 103 points.

James Madison captured the overall team title with 26 points, ending William & Mary’s five-year reign as team champions. The Tribe was runner-up with 73 points followed by host Elon, Delaware, Northeastern, College of Charleston, Towson, Hofstra, and UNCW in the nine-team field.

In addition to McGroarty, Delaware junior Jeanette Bendolph was 18th overall with a time of 22:19.24, freshman Roxanne Ramirez placed 23rd (22:28.29), junior Emily Paolucci placed 26th (22:34.90), sophomore Stephanie Bazan came in 31st place (22:41.69), junior Lauren Zodl was 35th (22:51.27), freshman Susanna Weir was 41st (23:06.74), freshman Deja Rodriquez-Santiago was 45th (23:20.53), sophomore Analise Kaminski was 46th (23:25.65), sophomore Stephanie Palese was 56th (23:57.33), sophomore Leanza Lopez was 66th (24:24.50), and senior Madeline Berman was 67th (24:24.92).
