Fueled by a pair of double-doubles by junior forward Paul Clemons and freshman guard Brian Cameron, the Wesley College men’s basketball team downed Frostburg State, 84-77 in a Capital Athletic Conference game on Saturday.

The Wolverines (6-6 CAC, 8-11 overall) grabbed a 20-point advantage by halftime. The Wolverines extended their lead by as many as 24 points (52-28) early in the second half.

The Bobcats made a run to cut their deficit to as little as three points in the waning moments before Wesley held them off.

Cameron recorded 26 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. He went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Clemons tallied 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, converting 10-of-12 shots from the foul line.

Sophomore Evan Anderson and junior J.W. Lawson also scored in double figures. Anderson, who hit five three-pointers, scored 17 points while Lawson registered 14 points, six rebounds and four steals off the bench.

WOMEN, Frostburg State 90, Wesley 60: Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) led the Wolverines with 16 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Monshea Newsome-Murray chipped in with nine points, a team-high five assists and four rebounds for Wesley (3-9 CAC, 7-12 overall).

Wrestling

Cape Henlopen 55, Sanford 17: Vincent Diego (145) and Christopher Handlin (182) both had pins to spark the Vikings to the nonconferenc evictory.

Cape also won five matches by forfeit as it improved to 11-1.

Indian River 59, Conrad 12: The Indians posted four pins in the nonconference victory.

Winning by fall for IR were Ta’Jon Knight (120), Jessie O’Neal (132), Reshawn Turner (152) and Christopher Saylor (106).

Indian River 76  Wilmington Friends 3: The Indians collected eight more pins in their second victory of the day.

William Rayne (113), Ta’Jon Knight (120), Jessie O’Neal (132), Jared Arlett (138), Joseph Ciriello (145), Reshawn Turner (152), Arturo Mora Salas (170) and Zeke Marcozzi (195) all won by fall for IR.

Woodbridge 63, Nandua 12: The Raiders collected four pins, all in the first period, to earn the nonconference win.

Woodbridge got pins from Derrick Atwood (170), Hunter Young (220) and Jerome Cannon (106) and Trey Haynes (120).

Blue Jays win twice: Seaford earned a pair of nonconference wins, 40-24 over Nandua and 45-15 over Norfolk Collegiate, on Saturday.

Girls’ basketball

Dover 67, Polytech 55: The Senators (8-7) built a 12-point halftime lead before posting the Henlopen North win on Friday.

Sussex Tech 52, Sussex Central 42: The Ravens built a 16-point advantage after three quarters before holding on for the North victory.

Janiya Stevens netted 11 points for Sussex Tech.

Baleigh Lambert scored a team-high 12 points for Central.

Boys’ basketball

St. Georges Tech 53, Woodbridge 52: Kyson Rawls’ three-point play with just 9.6 seconds left lifted the Hawks to the nonconference win.

Rawls finished with 21 points for St. Georges (10-4).

Woodbridge’s Hassan Corbin also scored 21 points with Cornell Corbin adding 12 for the Raiders (10-2). Woodbridge outscored the Hawks, 15-6, in the second quarter to take a one-point halftime lead.

Delmarva Christian 72, Wilm. Christian 62: Andrew Workman betted a season-high 34 points, with eight three-pointers, to pace the Royals to the win.

Ty Hammond added 14 points for Delmarva Christian.

College track & field

Hillman, Bendolph win for Hens: Junior Sarah Hillman (Polytech) won her second shot put title and sophomore Jeanette Bendolph (Caesar Rodney) set a school record in the 800 meters to lead the Delaware women’s indoor track & field team to a second-place finish at the Villanova Invitational on Friday.

Delaware finished with 90 points to place second in the 10-team field, finishing behind only Albany, which posted 108.5 points.

Hillman was a winner with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 48-7.5 in the shot put. Also qualifying for the ECAC Championships later this season were the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Tyra Reid (Caesar Rodney), London Freeland, Carly Pettipaw, and Carolyn Darr with a fourth-place finish in a time of 3:50.82.

Reid also was third in the 400 meters (56.52) with an ECAC-qualifying time of 56.85), Bendolph was the lone Blue Hen to set a record as she covered the 800 meters in a school-record time of 2:12.52 to place fifth overall and qualify for the ECAC Championships.
