Roundup: C-W captures District I softball 9-10 title

Camden-Wyoming downed Felton-Harrington, 9-0, on Friday night to capture the District I championship in the 9-10 softball tournament.

Camden-Wyoming allowed just one run while going 3-0 in the tourney.

Camden-Wyoming will return to Dover for the state tournament, which begins on July 21. The state champion receives an automatic bid to the East Regional in Fleetsville, Pa.

Felton-Harrington finished 3-2 in the tournament.

Major League

Nanticoke 12, M.O.T. 1: The District III champions advanced to the state finals with the victory over host Middletown on Friday night.

Nanticoke will play Canal in the state championship game today at M.O.T. at 7 p.m. Nanticoke needs a win to force a second game for the title on Saturday night.

The state champion goes to Bristol, Conn. for the Eastern Regional, which starts on July 23.

District I champion M.O.T. had to forfeit its state tourney opener on Friday because it didn’t have enough players. Middletown started the contest with nine players but had a player taken to the hospital after being hit by a ball.

Baseball

Kent Co. to open with R.I.: Kent County’s District I will open the Big League baseball Eastern Regional with a 7:30 p.m. game today against Rhode Island.

The eight-team, double-elimination tournament begins today with four games starting at noon at Dover Little League Park. No team has a first-round bye in this year’s tourney.

District I, which features nine players from regular-season champion Felton-Harrington, will play again on Sunday — either at 7:30 p.m. if it wins its opener or at 2:30 p.m. if it loses.

Cape Henlopen, which is designated as the state champion, opens the regional today with a 2:30 p.m. matchup against Connecticut. If the two Delaware squads win their openers, they will square off on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The East champion advances to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C. District I is the defending champion.

9-10 tournament

M.O.T. 12, Felton-Harrington 4: Middletown captured the District I title with the victory on Friday night, finishing 5-0 in the tournament.

M.O.T. next plays in the state tournament, which starts on July 21 in Millsboro.

In Friday’s win, winning pitcher Max McMullen struck out five in 3 2/3 innings and also went 4-for-4 with a double and four runs scored. Pitcher Jackson Dorsey finished the game and had a double with an RBI and a run while Chase Simmons went 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Felton-Harrington finished 2-2 in the tournament.
