Roundup: C-W advances to finals in District I 8-10 softball tournament

Camden-Wyoming edged M.O.T., 6-5, in the 8-10 year-old District I softball tournament on Sunday night.

Now 2-0, host Camden-Wyoming advances to the district finals on Tuesday night.

Ellie McCarthy scored twice for Camden-Wyoming, including the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Winning pitcher Chloe Donovan struck out 12.

McKenzie Mitchell had a hit and also scored a pair of runs with Alyiaha Christonson adding Camden-Wyoming’s other run.

Pitcher Haley Grygo had 14 strikeouts for M.O.T., Natalie Gephart had two runs and a hit and Kaylee Stenvik scored once.

M.O.T. (1-1) faces Smyrna-Clayton (1-1) today at 7 p.m. at Camden-Wyoming in an elimination game.

The district champion advances to the state tournament, which starts on July 19 at Canal Little League.

Smyrna-Clayton 31, Felton-Harrington 9: Smyrna-Clayton stayed alive in the District I tournament with the victory on Sunday night.

Smyrna-Clayton plays again today at 7 p.m.

M.O.T. 16, Felton-Harrington 6: Natalie Gephart reached base five times with a triple and double, stole 10 bases and scored five runs for M.O.T. in its opening win on Saturday night.

Erinn Muller got on base four times and scored three runs, Kaylee Stenvik went 2-for-3 and winning pitcher Samantha Stokes struck out six.

For Felton-Harrington, Stephanie Stracher (2-for-3, triple) and Dakota Hollar scored a pair of runs each while pitcher Alana Aguilas had five strikeouts.

BASEBALL

Senior League

Naamans 18, Dover 2: Naamans downed Dover in the Senior League baseball state tournament on Sunday evening.

Including a 6-1 victory over Lower Sussex on Saturday night, the District II champions are now 2-0 in the three-team, double-elimination tournament being played at M.O.T.

Naamans advances to Tuesday night’s state finals.

Dover, which suffered its first postseason loss after three straight wins in the District I tournament, faces Lower Sussex today at 7 p.m. in an elimination game.

The state champion in Little League’s age division for 15-16 year-olds earns a spot in the Eastern Regional in Thorofare, N.J.

American Legion

Milford drops two: Milford Post 3 was swept by Delaware Post 1, 7-6 and 14-8, in a doubleheader on Sunday at Woodbridge High.

Milford fell to 2-14 overall with the pair of losses. Four of its setbacks have come by just one run.

Nanticoke takes split: The Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots beat the Post 10 Generals, 7-4, before dropping the nightcap, 9-8, on Sunday.

The Patriots are now 7-6 after splitting the two games.
