Arika Burrell scored 20 points, including a game-winning layup to lead Lake Forest High to a 42-41 victory over Cape Henlopen High in girls’ basketball on Friday night.

With the win the Spartans moved to 9-4 on the season.

Sussex Tech 55, Laurel 36: Mi’Cah Shelton led the Ravens with 11 points to help them earn their third consecutive win.

Logan Handy of Laurel was the game’s top scorer with 23 points.

St. Elizabeth 66, Milford 32: Rajene Bowe netted 12 points to lead the Buccaneers who were defeated in the nonconference contest.

The Vikings scored 31 points in the first quarter.

Delmarva Christian 49, Gunston Day School, Md. 27: Elizabeth Stevens was the lone player in double figures with 12 points as the Royals recorded the victory on Friday night.

Boys’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 65, Woodbridge 63: The Riders dealt the Blue Raiders their first loss of the season.

Caesar Rodney improved to 8-3 and has won its last five games. Woodbridge dropped to 8-1.

Dover 59, North Caroline, Md. 48: The Senators used a 17-3 run in the third quarter to take control.

Cape Henlopen 57, Lake Forest 47: Randy Rickards paced the Vikings with a game-high 20 points while Cory Barnes added 10 points.

Isaiah Morris netted 20 points for the Spartans.

St. Thomas More 69, Polytech 47: The Ravens earned the nonconference victory on Friday night at Polytech.

Delmarva Christian 35, Gunston Day School, Md. 27: Wyatt Kwiatkowski’s 12 points helped carry the Royals to a win Friday over an out of state opponent.

Women’s basketball

Delaware 65, Northeastern 53: Led by Nicole Enabosi’s fourth straight game with a double-double and Sadé Chatman’s career-high 20 points, the Blue Hens picked up the victory over Northeastern at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Enabosi recorded 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals in 33 minutes of play. Chatman went 10-of-15 from the floor and added two blocked shots, two rebounds and an assist as the Blue Hens (9-8, 3-3 CAA) collected their second consecutive win.

Delaware jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter and outscored the Huskies (6-12, 2-4 CAA), 18-0, over an eight-minute span in the first half and never looked back in the contest. Northeastern cut the lead to 10 late in the third, but never got any closer.

Francesca Sally guided the Huskies with 14 points, seven rebounds and the team’s lone blocked shot of the evening.

Women’s lacrosse

Delaware picked fourth in CAA: The Blue Hens had two players honored and the Blue Hens were selected to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association in the league’s preseason voting, as decided upon by the conference’s head coaches.

Seniors Coley Ricci and Jamie Schwartz were picked as All-CAA Preseason Honorable Mention.

A midfielder, Ricci posted a breakout season last year with 24 points on 21 goals and three assists.  She started 15 of 17 games played and tied for second on the team with 15 caused turnovers and two game-winning goals.

A two-time All-CAA Second Team honoree, Schwartz continued to bolster her career numbers with a successful junior campaign last season.  The attacker led the Hens with 29 goals and added 16 assists for a career-best 45 points.  Schwartz is Delaware’s career leader for active players with 89 points, 50 goals and 39 assists.

Towson’s Kaitlyn Montalbano was chosen as the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Player of the Year.

The defending CAA champion Towson Tigers were picked to finish atop the standings in 2017 by earning four first place votes and a total of 35 points.
