Rajene Bowe’s game-high 15 points helped lead the Milford High girls’ basketball team to a 42-35 victory over Lake Forest High in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division matchup on Thursday night.

It was a one-point game headed into the fourth quarter until the Buccaneers used a 9-5 run in the fourth to pull away. Milford improved to 9-6 overall and has won four in a row.

Kiarra Brittingham added 10 points for Milford. Arika Burrell was Lake Forest’s leading scorer with 15 points.

St. Thomas More 47, Tatnall 35: Aniah Patterson’s 22 points lifted the Ravens to a victory over an upstate opponent.

Sanford 80, Dover 30: The Senators were outscored 20-2 in the first quarter of the nonconference defeat.

Ja’Nyra Hicks was Dover’s top scorer with eight points. She hit a pair of three-pointers in the contest.

Laurel 63, Woodbridge 43: The Bulldogs earned the Henlopen South victory on Thursday.

College basketball

MEN, Hofstra 73, Delaware 65: Hofstra erased an 11-point halftime deficit with a 20-2 run early in the second half and held off the Blue Hens down the stretch.

Delaware (9-15, 2-9 CAA) jumped out to a 35-24 halftime advantage, and the Blue Hens still led 44-37 with 17 minutes to play following a jump shot by Ryan Daly. However the Pride (11-13, 3-8 CAA) took the lead for good by scoring 20 of the next 22 points, taking a 57-46 lead on a Hunter Sabety follow slam at the 9:44 mark.

Hofstra’s lead eventually grew to as much as 12, and the Pride was still up nine before Cazmon Hayes drilled a three-pointer and Chivarsky Corbett converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 63-60 with 4:27 on the clock.

But Delaware missed its next five shots as Hofstra extended the margin to seven, before a three-point play by Corbett made it 67-63 with 1:16 left. However Pride guard Justin Wright-Foreman knocked down his second straight contested jumper to put Hofstra up six, and the Blue Hens would not get closer the rest of the way.

Daly again led the Blue Hens with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Darian Bryant reached double figures for the third straight game with 11 points to go with five assists. Eric Carter contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Devonne Pinkard also scored nine points off the bench.

Wright-Foreman scored a game-high 22 points for Hofstra, which put all five starters in double figures. Hunter Sabety notched career-highs of 14 points and 15 rebounds while Eli Pemberton added 12 points, Deron Powers chipped in with 10 points and nine boards, and Brian Bernardi contributed 10 points.

“It was a tale of two halves tonight,” said first year Blue Hen head coach Martin Ingelsby. “I thought we did a great job in the first half, but then gave up some early threes in the second half and allowed them to get confident. We battled back to make it a three-point game, but just couldn’t get stops down the stretch. When we face adversity we have to battle through it; we have to get better in that area and continue to grow.”

Hofstra led by a point at the 8:57 mark of the first half but Delaware erupted to score the next 13 points, taking a 33-19 advantage on an Anthony Mosley jumper with 3:43 on the clock. The Blue Hens held the Pride without a field goal for over seven minutes during the run, and eventually carried a 35-24 lead into the halftime break.

Delaware shot 50 percent while holding Hofstra to just 29.6 percent shooting over the opening 20 minutes, taking a double digit lead into the locker room for the second straight game. However the Pride shot 50 percent and hit 15 of 18 free throws in the final stanza to turn the game around.

College lacrosse

Wesley men picked ninth in conference: The Wolverines were picked ninth in Capital Athletic Conference preseason poll, collecting 10 points. Defending national champion Salisbury was picked as the preseason favorite, receiving 63 points and seven first-place votes. 2016 CAC Champion York was slated to finish second, tallying 57 points and the remaining two first-place votes.

In 2016, the Wolverines finished 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the CAC.

Entering his ninth season as head coach, Bill Gorrow looks for all-around improvement heading into the 2017 season. Will Fingles, Joe Fingles and Nate Gemmato look to lead the Wolverine offense while Zach Darnell and Alex Collins will pace the defense. Last season, Gemmato ranked sixth in the CAC in ground balls (94) and seventh in faceoff wins (118-286).

The Wolverines will open at the 2017 campaign at home when they host the Shenandoah Hornets on Saturday, Feb. 18.
