Georgetown and Asia-Pacific had already established themselves as the two best teams in their pool.

The two squads didn’t do anything to change that perception when they finally met on Thursday.

It took nine innings before Asia-Pacific scored the game’s only run as the team from the Philippines finished pool play with a 1-0 victory over Georgetown in the Senior League Softball World Series.

The win gives Asia-Pacific (4-0) the top seed in Pool A. It will face Pool B’s fourth seed in the quarterfinals today at 8 p.m. at Lower Sussex Little League.

Georgetown (3-1) is the No. 2 seed from Pool A and will take on Pool B’s third-seeded squad at 5:30 p.m. today.

In Friday’s showdown, Asia-Pacific’s Mary Joy Maguad lined a triple to centerfield to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Two batters later, she scored the winning run on a Georgetown error.

Maguad finished with three of Asia-Pacific’s six hits in the game.

Taylor Wroten pitched the six-hitter for Georgetown, with five strikeouts and only one walk.

Asia-Pacific pitcher Kaith Ezra Jaladoni shut out Georgetown on just four hits with 18 strikeouts and no walks.

Corrin Farris had two of the host team’s four hits while Sierra Livington doubled and Ryleigh Elliott added a single. Jaladoni retired the first 10 batters she faced.

Livingston doubled to left to start the eighth inning. But Jaladoni got three straight strikeouts, including one on a two-strike foul bunt, to end the threat.

If both Asia-Pacific and Georgetown keep winning, they wouldn’t face each other again until Sunday afternoon’s championship game.

Local lacrosse

DE Turf to host nationals in ‘18: The DE Turf Sports Complex will host the 10th annual US Lacrosse Nationals next August.

The youth tournament is scheduled for Aug. 2-5, 2018, and will include boys’ and girls’ teams in the 14U, 13U and 12U age divisions.

DE Turf, in Frederica, features 12 turf fields (five of which are lighted), a championship stadium with permanent seating for 750 fans and three concession stands.

“We are thrilled to host the 2018 US Lacrosse Nationals,” Chris Giacomucci, executive director of DE Turf, said in a press release. “We look forward to providing a first-class experience at our world-class facility.”

Teams will qualify for the Nationals based on a scoring system that US Lacrosse recently announced, earning points based on their finishes in qualifying tournaments.

College lacrosse

Hens add to women’s staff: Delaware women’s lacrosse head coach Kateri Linville has announced the addition of two staff members.

Linville, who will be in her eighth season at her alma mater in 2017-18, has brought in Joe Tornetta and Callie Santos as assistant coaches. Kalyn McDonough will remain on staff for the third straight season as the director of player personnel.

Local football

CR hosting flag football tourney: The Caesar Rodney High football program is hosting a flag football tournament on Aug. 12.

There will be both a ‘Family Fun’ tourney, for $3 per player, or a competitive tournament with six-player squads at a cost of $30 per team. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the event beginning at 10.

Food, games and a moon bounce will also be available.

Little League

Dover holding fall registration: Dover Little League is having registration for its Fall Ball baseball and softball programs.

Players, ages 5-16, in Kent County, including Dover, Camden-Wyoming, Marydel-Hartly, Smyrna-Clayton and Felton-Harrington, are eligible.

Registration is being held at the Dover Little League boardroom on Aug. 9 and 16 (6-8 p.m.) and on Aug. 5, 12 and 19 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). A birth certificate is required and registration is $50 per player.
