Dover High rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 4-3 victory over Delmar in Henlopen Conference baseball on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the eighth in a row for the Senators (9-2 in conference, 14-2 overall).

Jordan Hutchins and Jarvis Worthy each had two hits for Dover while Garrett Lawson struck out eight in six innings.

Frederick Frey had two of the Wildcats’ four hits.

Smyrna 4, Sussex Central 3: Brandt Penuel and John Barkley both had two-run doubles in the top of the eighth as the Eagles held on for the win.

The contest was scoreless going into the eighth. Central answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single from Garrett Casey and an RBI double from Trey Toppin.

But Central left the tying run at second base.

Garrett Casey allowed only two hits and struck out seven in 7 2/3 innings for Smyrna (9-0 in conference, 12-2 overall), which won its sixth game in a row.

Trevor Collins struck out six in 3 1/3 innings for Central.

Polytech 6, Sussex Tech 4: A three-run sixth carried the Panthers to the conference victory.

Joey Hass’ solo homerun tied the contest at 4-4 before Polytech added two more runs in the inning. Reliever Louis Whitaker pitched three shutout innings to earn the win while Haas and Chace Biron (2 RBI) had two hits each.

Will Argo had two hits for the Ravens.

Caesar Rodney 1, Lake Forest 0: Thomas Pomatto pitched a four-hitter to earn the shutout as the Riders snapped a five-game losing streak.

CR scored the game’s only run in the sixth when Carlton Voak’s squeeze bunt brought home Quintin Ivy.

Lake Forest’s Tyler Collins, who doubled, allowed only two hits while striking out seven.

Cape Henlopen 6, Indian River 0: Quinn Donohoe and Samuel Johnson combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for the Vikings.

Zach Gelof (2 RBI, 1 run, 3 stolen bases) went 3-for-4 and Austin Elliott (1 RBI, 1 run) went 2-for-3 to pace Cape’s 10-hit attack.

Joey Anderson had both of the Indians’ hits.

Glasgow 20, St. Thomas More 2: The Ravens had only two hits in the five-inning loss.

Softball

Dover 5, Delmar 3: Victoria Mitchell’s two-run homerun capped off a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh for the Senators.

Tabriana Miller had two hits for Dover, which improved to 7-6.

Avery Wheatley had three hits for Delmar.

Sussex Tech 4, Polytech 2: Rylee Shockley had two of the Ravens’ four hits with three RBI in the conference victory.

Taylor Collins also had an RBI for Sussex Tech, which took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the first.

Pitcher Taylor Pechin struck out nine for the Panthers.

Sussex Central 1, Smyrna 0: Hayley McCabe pitched her second one-hit shutout in as many days as the Golden Knights won their ninth in a row.

Central scored the game’s only run in the fourth when Chelsey Ward singled, courtesy runner Natalie Oldham stole second and scored on a single by Kailee Abbott.

Smyrna’s Jessica Anderson threw a four-hitter.

Cape Henlopen 6, Indian River 4: The Vikings stretched their winning streak to four games in a row.

Milford 23, Christiana 2: The Buccaneers cruised to a nonconference road win.

Delmarva Christian 19, Dickinson 0: Siera Jones pitched a five-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts for the Royals.

Louisa Re and Malaurie Noble had two hits each with Haley Niethammer and Diana Kempf both adding two RBI.

Girls’ soccer

Dover 3, Cape Henlopen 1: Katie Ford netted all three of the Senators’ goals in their Henlopen North victory.

Caroline Cashion made three saves and added an assist for Dover, which outshot the Vikings, 8-4.

Brooke Hollingsworth scored in the 66th minute for Cape with Olivia Baratto stopping five shots.

Lake Forest 8, Sussex Academy 0: Lauren Sharp collected four goals and three assists in the Spartans’ Henlopen South win.

Lake Forest’s other goals came from Bailey Dean, Hannah Fox (2 assists), Jocelyn Hughes and Alyssa Santore.

The Spartans finished with advantages of 22-3 in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks.

Caesar Rodney 9, Polytech 1: Aleya Cummings tallied four goals and a pair of assists as the Riders finished 6-0 in the Henlopen North.

Lynsy Gruwell (2 assists) Jessie Prillaman added two goals each for CR, which led 8-1 at halftime. Haley Prillaman scored the Riders’ lone second-half goal and Marianna Nuzzo made two saves.

Samantha Stafford scored for the Panthers with Jennifer Foster making eight saves. CR outshot Polytech, 18-3.

Sussex Tech 1, Smyrna 0: Aliyah Browning’s goal in the 97th minute lifted the Ravens to the Henlopen North win.

Sheyla Artiga assisted on the overtime goal while Kira Whealton made four saves. Sussex Tech held advantages of 12-6 in shots and 8-4 in corner kicks.

Smyrna’s Cassidy Cook made eight saves.

Indian River 6, Woodbridge 0: Madison Hogsten and Brooke Beam scored three goals apiece in IR’s Henlopen South win.

Fabrea McCray made a pair of saves as the Indians outshot the Raiders, 21-2.

Altia Anderson stopped 13 shots for Woodbridge.

Appoquinimink 5, Delmarva Christian 0: Layne Morris made 16 saves for the Royals in the loss.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Milford 11, St. Georges 6: Dallas Rhodes’ five goals paced the Buccaneers to the win.

Milford also got two goals each from Brennan Hajek and Jonathan Gaglione while Ryan Herka and Chase Taylor had one apiece.

Clay Stevenson made 21 saves for Milford, which led 6-3 at halftime.

Appoquinimink 10, Cape Henlopen 7: The Jaguars outscored the Vikings, 4-2, in the second half in posting the win.

Hank Coveleski had three goals for Cape with Ethan Ghabra netting two. Matthew Lally and Jacob Brown also scored for the Vikings with Brendan Kane making 10 saves.

Delmar 11, Indian River 6: The Wildcats outscored the Indians, 9-3, over the finals three quarters to rally from an early one-goal deficit.

Masyn Lilly had a team-high three goals with Remington Plunkert, Alexander Rosenthal (1 assist) and Jeremy Haynes all tallying two.

Andrew Blewitt (2 assists) and Logan Thomas scored Delmar’s other goals with Hunter Gilmore making nine saves.

Delmarva Christian 5, Dickinson 3: The Royals outscored the Rams, 3-1, in the second half to break a 2-2 tie.

GIRLS, A.I. duPont 14, St. Thomas More 12: Jessica Crawford scored five goals and Joanna Petrosky added four for the Ravens in the loss.

St. Thomas More outscored the Tigers, 7-4, in the second half before falling short.

Also for the Ravens, Sasha Marvel scored twice, Jessica Simmons had one goal and Madison Murrian made 10 saves.

Padua 14, Sussex Tech 13: The Pandas overcame an 8-5 halftime deficit to edge the Ravens in overtime.

Newark Charter 14, Indian River 11: The Indians dropped a nonconference decision on Tuesday.

College softball

Delaware 8, Elon 2: Freshman catcher Anna Steinmetz belted two homers while righthander Carolyn Szymanski allowed just two runs as the Blue Hens won their opener in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

Delaware snapped a 10-game losing streak in the CAA tourney, winning a league tournament game for the first time since a 4-2 triumph over JMU in 2004.

The fifth-seeded Hens (30-19) advance to play top-seeded and seventh-ranked James Madison on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. on the Dukes’ home field.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Steinmetz, who was named the CAA Rookie of the Year earlier in the day, put the Hens on the board by drilling a long home run over the centerfield fence.

The Hens then put the game away in the top of the seventh by pushing across five more runs on six hits.

Seven Hornets honored by MEAC: Seven members of the Delaware State softball team received recognition on the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team.

The Hornets’ Amber Jackson was named MEAC Coach of the Year. It marks the second time in the last three years that a Hornet coach has garnered the award.

In 2014, DSU Hall of Famer Janice Savage received the honor after leading the Hornets to their first of three consecutive MEAC North Division titles.

This year Jackson has led the Hornets to the highest victory totals — both overall (27) and conference (16) — of any team in the MEAC.

Outfielder Nicole Gazzola and catcher Sandy Hawthorne both earned first-team All-MEAC honors for the third consecutive season, while infielders Chloe Oro, Vanessa Washington and pitcher Tara Tursellino (13-7) received second-team recognition.

Utility player Rochelle Sablay landed third-team All-MEAC honors.
