EAST NEW MARKET - Rosa Virginia Austin, 83, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at the Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born April 23, 1923 in Farmington, W.Va. the daughter of the late Morgan Leroy Six and Manoria Jane Dean and the stepdaughter of P. W. Riggs.
She attended school in Farmington and married Thomas William Austin on June 14, 1940. After their marriage they moved to New York City.
In 1943 Mr. Austin was inducted into the U.S. Army and she moved back to West Virginia. In 1949, Rosa, Tom and their son moved to East New Market where Mr. Austin began his teaching and coaching career in North Dorchester. Mrs. Austin worked for a few years at the Secretary Shirt Factory but spent most of her years as a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in East New Market.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her son, T. Lee Austin and his wife, Jeanette of Snug Harbor; two special nephews, Robert Jones and his wife, Alice of Fairmont, W. Va. and Arthur Austin and his wife, Gloria of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; and several additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth M. Six Musgrove Whittaker and Ruby C. Six Farrance; and one brother, Ralph A. Six of Uniontown, Ohio who also died on Jan. 6, 2007.
No public funeral service will be held. Burial will take place at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at a later date.
The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.
