CAMBRIDGE - Roberta M. Herd, 55, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 2, 2007.

Bobbie, as she was known to her family and friends, was born at Peninsula Regional General Hospital in Salisbury on Oct. 2, 1951, and was a daughter of the late Virginia M. Dunn Chew and the late Robert Chew and granddaughter of the late Sula Dunn and Oscar Dunn.

Bobbie graduated from James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury in 1969 and later graduated from the Wicomico Vo-Tech School of Practical Nursing. She loved nursing and started her career at Peninsula General Hospital and after she moved to Cambridge she worked at Dorchester General Hospital and for the past 19 years she worked at the Mallard Bay Care Center.

On Oct. 4, 1975, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Michael T. Herd.

She had worked as a nurse for 37 years. She loved cooking and was especially known for her fried chicken, lasagna and her famous chicken and dumplings.

Mrs. Herd was a Christian and was a member of Faith Baptist Fellowship in Cambridge and a former member of the Bivalve United Methodist Church.

She had been in failing health for the past nine months.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Michael T. Herd of Cambridge; one daughter, Deborah L. Graham and her husband, Michael Graham of East New Market; two sons, Matthew J. Herd and his wife, Jamie Herd of Secretary and Aaron D. Herd of Cambridge. She is also survived by three grandsons, Michael P. Graham Jr., Gabriel C. Graham and Jonathan T. Graham, all of East New Market; one sister, Priscilla Ann Jackson of Salisbury; two nieces, Constance D. Jackson and Susan A. Jackson, both of Salisbury; two nephews, Jeffrey A. Kelly of Tennessee and P. Brian Kelly of Massachusetts; three uncles, William P. Dunn of Salisbury, Andrew Dunn of Clarksville, Ark. and Pete Chew of Delmar and a lifelong friend Debbie Dunning of Swansboro, N.C.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Herd, Aaron Herd, Michael Graham, Brian Kelly, Gary Hickman and Bob Fehsenfeld.
