CAMBRIDGE - Roberta C. Murphy, passed away in the Dorchester General Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008. She was 84. She was born at Fishing Creek on Dec. 1, 1923, and was a daughter of the late Ronald R. and Mabel Aaron McGlaughlin Sr. She attended schools at Fishing Creek and graduated from Hoopers Island High School in 1940 and was Valedictorian of her class. On Nov. 9, 1941, she was married to Alton P. Murphy. She had worked at Airpax in Cambridge for 35 years until she retired in January of 1987. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed decorating her home and doing needlework. She had been in failing health for the past two years and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since Monday, where she passed away on Thursday afternoon. Survivors include her husband, Alton P. Murphy of Cambridge; two sons, Ronald P. Murphy and his wife Marilyn Murphy of Bradenton, Fla., and Eugene L. Murphy and his wife Jennifer Murphy of the Philippines. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Gregory P. Murphy, Jeffrey S. Murphy, Kendra Murphy, Robert Murphy and Shane Murphy; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald R. McGlaughlin Jr. of Crapo; one sister, Mary Blossom Creighton of Easton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy McGlaughlin. A funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey Jr. officiating. Interment followed at the East New Market Cemetery. The family received friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Priscilla McGlaughlin, P.O. Box 41, Fishing Creek, MD 21634. Pallbearers were Gregory Murphy, Jeffrey Murphy, Randy McGlaughlin, Stanley Toms, Scott McGlaughlin, and Chris Willey.
