
Russell, 63 MILFORD - Robert V. "Bob" Russell, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. Mr. Russell was born in Wilmington, son of the late Victor A. Russell and Isabel Symonds Russell who resides in Wilmington, Del. Mr. Russell was a 1967 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of Delaware with a BS in Psychology. While at the University, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and served as High Alpha and High Gamma. Following graduation, he worked as a family counselor and marina operator before becoming a full-time farmer. For the past 28 years, Bob and his wife, Barbara, have operated Bob Russell Custom Grower in Lewes, Milton, and Milford. They supply over 100 varieties of herbs, vegetables, edible flowers, and micro greens for many of the resort area restaurants. Bob's endeavors included being very active in the Farmer and the Chef Programs of Wilmington and Millsboro and the Master Gardener Program. He has been noted in numerous articles on specialty farming in many different publications including the Wall Street Journal, Delaware Today, and The News Journal. Bob was a participant in the USDA Farmer to Farmer program sharing his expertise with farmers in Jamaica to assist them in marketing their products to local restaurants. When not in the garden, he enjoyed traveling, cooking, hiking, and connecting with friends and family. In addition to his mother, Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Porter Russell; his sister, Victoria Russell Maccari and her husband, Nicholas D. of Wilmington; and a niece and nephew, Christina (Tia) Maccari and Nicholas R. Maccari, both of Philadelphia. Services will be announced at a later date.
