Robert L. Hochstedler

MILFORD - Robert L. Hochstedler died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at home. Mr. Hochstedler was born in Philadelphia, Pa. the son of the late Viola Green. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. While in the service, he flew as air crew during the Cuban Missile Crises and served on the USS Wasp CVA 18 A when they recovered the Gemini Capsules GT - 4 and GTA -6. He retired from Mediacom after working for several cable companies for 39 years, retiring in 2006. He was known to his family and friends as "Laddie' or "Hokey". Mr. Hochstedler enjoyed working part time at Webb's Market in Frederica. He was an active member of the Sunshine Foundation, a local "Make A Wish" organization; a member of the Milford American Legion Post #3, where he enjoyed working bingo with his friend Ron Wisseman; was a member of the Milford High School Band Boosters and the Milford Elks Lodge. In his spare time, he would enjoy painting stepping stones and loved to go fishing. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandson Keith Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Lois; a son Lt. Commander Robert A. Hochstedler and his wife Shay; one sister Linda Green; three brothers David Green and his wife Judy, Mike Green and his wife Donna K. and Dennis Green and his wife Donna B. and 5 grandchildren Kiley Purcell and her husband Royce, Aidan Hochstedler, Rowan Hochstedler, Nicole Rogers and Jeremy Knott; and two great-grandchildren Kayla Kriner, Purcell and Royce Purcell III. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, April 22, 2013 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday April 23, 2013 at the funeral home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Harrington High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 37, Harrington, DE 19952.
