Robert James Cole

CHESWOLD - Robert James Cole of Cheswold, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Kent General Hospital. He was 87. Mr. Cole was born June 17, 1928 in Cheswold, to the late Rollin Cole and Emma Sapp Cole. He worked for 30 years for the Department of Transportation as a hot mix inspector retiring in 1986. Mr. Cole enjoyed working in the yard, watching NASCAR, and at one time had enjoyed riding motorcycles and mopeds. He was a member of the Cheswold United Methodist Church. Mr. Cole loved spending time with family and friends and his beloved companion, Poncho his Chihuahua. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Raughley. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Davis Cole of Cheswold; daughter, Darlene Cole and her husband John Kipferl of New Castle; sister, Doris Winn and her husband John; niece and nephew, William Semans and Michelle Winn all of Dover. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. The family requests no flowers but requests contributions be made to Cheswold United Methodist Church, PO Box 191, Cheswold, DE 19936. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
