
DOVER - Robert Henry Tudor, Sr. passed away Sat., Apr. 13, 2013 at Kent General Hospital. Mr. Tudor was born Aug. 24, 1922 in Baltimore, Md. to the late Edgar Allen Tudor and Fannie Louise Naumann Tudor. He graduated from Francis Scott Key School in Baltimore and attended Grace Lutheran church on Decater Street in Baltimore. From 1939 – 1942 he worked in the shipyards and received the Maritime "Award of Merit" for the construction of Liberty Ships in 1942. He served in the Pacific zone during WWII spending 4 1/2 years in the Army Air Force. He married Alice M. Fowler Aug. 22, 1943 and in 1949 they moved to Dover where he and his brother, Julius opened Dover Electric Supply Co. In 1952, he developed Tudor Electric Contracting. In the 1960's he started an alarm system company, now known as Delaware Electric Signal Co. Mr. Tudor had served on the State of Delaware Electrical Board and on the Board of Adjustments. In the 1970's he was an instructor of electricity at Kent Vo-Tech School and Kent Vo-tech North teaching electrical apprentices. During that time period he served on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Bank. In May of 1991, he received the Kent Vo-Tech Adult Program, "Kent Vo-Tech Person of the Year" award. From the 1970's into the 1990's he developed Tudor Business Park and a shopping center on S. Little Creek Road. Mr. Tudor served as City Councilman from Aug. 10, 1981 through May 13, 1985 and again from May 1992 until May 1996. He also served on several committees for the City of Dover, the utility committee, building, plumbing, mechanical and fire prevention code appeals; Park and Recreation Committee and as Liaison to Kent County. Everyone who knew him knew he liked to keep busy, and through all of this he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Tudor had a variety of interests but he especially enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alice Tudor, 2009; and his brothers, Julius "Bud" Tudor, Eugene Tudor; sisters, Elsie Curley, Margaret Bolland; and grandson, Robert Thomas Haney. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Shufelt and her husband Ralph of Dover; son, Robert H. Tudor II and his wife Susie of Dover; grandson, Aaron Haney; great-grandchildren, Kasey, Kayla, Ryan, Haley; great great grandson, Kolby; special nephew, Bernard Tudor and several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Eileen Haith. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thurs., Apr. 18, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), where friends may call one hour prior to the service and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed., Apr. 17, 2013. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
