Robert Gibson Sharp

Sharp, 92 DENTON, Md. - Robert Gibson Sharp of Denton, Md., died Sunday, September 7, 2014, at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. He was 92 years old. Born in Hillsboro, Md., Mr. Sharp was the son of the late John Byard Sharp and Anna Davis Stewart Sharp. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred Butler Sharp who died August 31, 1993; and is survived by his second wife, Doris Wood Sharp of Denton. Mr. Sharp was a graduate of the Tri County High School in Queen Anne. Immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Enterprise CV-6. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 20 years, retiring as a 1st Sgt. in 1970. He had worked for EI DuPont in Seaford, Del. for 36 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1982. He was a former member of the American Legion Nanticoke Post 6 in Seaford, a Life Member of the Seaford VFW Post 4961, and was also a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 in Denton. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sharp is survived by two sons, Robert G. Sharp, Jr. of Seaford and Ronald A. Sharp of Woodstock, Md.; two daughters, Shirley Niblett of Rehoboth, Del. and Janice Dryden of Parkton, Md.; two step-sons, David Wood, Jr. of Denton and Richard A. Wood of Denton; four step-daughters, Dottie Waters of Easton, Mary Wood of Easton, Susan Stafford of Denton, and Carol J. Johnson of Federalsburg, Md.; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by seven brothers, James Sharp, Charles Sharp, Paul Sharp, George Sharp, Howard Sharp, John Sharp, and William Kemp Sharp; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fluharty and Louise Messix. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 S. Fifth Ave. in Denton where friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday evening. The interment will be in the Concord Church Cemetery, 7112 Dion Road near Denton.
