Robert Elwood Wheatley

DELMAR, Del. - Robert Elwood Wheatley passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Elwood Cannon Wheatley and Martha Rebecca Horner Wheatley. Bobby worked for A.I. DuPont in Seaford for 28 years, retiring in 1992. In recent years, he worked in security at Delmarva Power. He was a member of Colt Corral and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Alice Mae Horseman Wheatley; three children, Robert Andrew Wheatley (Lisa) of Fairmount, Charles Lance Wheatley (Theresa) of Princess Anne, and Dana Sue Diller (Michael) of Salisbury; two step-children, Beverly Walter (Robert) of Mardela Springs and Julie Taylor (John) of Quantico; 11 grandchildren, Karen, Michele, Tyler, Brittany, Amber, Paige, Sarah, Eric, Ashleigh, Josh and John; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Gordon Wheatley (Lillian) of Salisbury, Gorman Thomas Wheatley (Linda) of Wichita, Kan., and Elwood "Bubba" Wheatley (Connie) of Salisbury; two sisters, Aneita Elizabeth Shores of Salisbury and Agnes Anne Arnold (Randy) of Columbus, Kan.; uncle, Frank Carpenter Horner (Deanna) of Wenona; and a long time best friend, Jesse Brock of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a nephew, William "Billy" Gordon Wheatley. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with Rev. Howard Travers and Rev. Robert Daniels officiating. There will be a visitation on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and also on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Skipjack Heritage, Inc, P.O.
