
Robert E. Wass, 88
DOVER - Robert E. Wass passed away, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at home.
Mr. Wass was born August 4, 1932 in Harrisville, West Virginia to the late Charles Fred Wass and Edna Prunty Wass Crawford.
He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War, serving on the aircraft carrier "The Valley Forge". In 1954, he went to work in Civil Service as an aircraft engine mechanic, retiring in 1987 from Dover Air Force Base. Mr. Wass built the home that his family lived in, and was considered a "jack of all trades" as he could repair almost anything. He enjoyed horse racing (trotters), and even owned one with his son, Robbie. Mr. Wass was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover. He enjoyed wood working and built several items for the church, including Christmas wreaths and the Cross that still hangs above the altar. He enjoyed camping, fishing, college basketball, and baseball, especially the Philly teams.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Wass; and son, Robert K. Wass.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hilda F. Wass (nee Roe) who he met and married in England; children, Lynn Giangrant (Vic) of Dover, Janice Palma (Rick) of Newark, and Brian Wass (Tammy) of Dover; sister, Lois Hill of Mt. Eaton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be private.
