Robert E. Simmons

DOVER - Robert E. Simmons died Jan. 2, 2014. Born in Cumberland, Md., he was one of nine children born to the late Oscar and Anna Simmons. Mr. Simmons had served in the U.S. Armed Forces for over 23 years and was a Veteran of WW-II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a TSGT. In 1965. He later retired from the Delaware Dept. of Agriculture after 20 years of service. Mr. Simmons was an active member at Holy Cross Church in Dover where he had volunteered throughout the years. He was a Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4182 and a Fourth Degree member in the Bishop Cartwright Assembly. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Clowns of Delaware. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Delilah L. Simmons; along with seven of his brothers and sisters. Mr. Simmons is survived by three daughters, Roberta Ciskey and her husband Michael, of Bethel, Conn., Denise Derda and husband Roger, of Prescott, Ariz., and Cynthia Smith and husband Robert J., of Dover; also survived by his brother, Lawrence Simmons of Bridgeton, N.J.; and his five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 in Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. Dover, where friends may call starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Life's End Services are by Michael J.
