WYOMING - Robert "Shank" Calvin Todd, of Wyoming, passed away Jan. 5, 2011, at the Silver Lake Center, Dover. He was 91. Born in Harmony, Md., on Sept. 6, 1919, he was the son of the late Hanway Calvin and Martha Pearle McConnell Todd. Mr. Todd graduated from the Preston High School Class of 1937 and then attended the Strayers Business College where he went on to work at O'Neal's in Baltimore, Md. Mr. Todd also fought for his country in WWII in the US Army 31st Division 124th Infantry from October 2, 1942 until December 26, 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Soldiers Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon for his outstanding service for his country. When he returned he was one of the gentlemen responsible for setting up the Maryland Unemployment Fund. Working briefly for E.I. Dupont before he returned back to his home roots where he was a mail carrier in the Preston area for over 30 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a member and past post commander of the V.F.W #5118 in Easton, Md., and he was a member of the American Legion in Seaford. "Shank" was a avid outdoorsman. His real passion was fishing and he was often found fishing for flounder in Chincoteague, Va., the Delaware Bay for trout, the Chesapeake Bay and his beloved Choptank River. After his retirement, he enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean and his gambling junkets to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He is survived by one son, Michael Todd and his wife Donna of Wyoming; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel R. Todd who passed away March 21, 2007; one son, Jeff Todd who passed away July 1, 2002; and by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at 1 p.m., at Williamson Funeral Home, 311 South Main Street, Federalsburg, Md., with Rev. David Heistand officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg, Md. Pallbearers will be Wayne Haddaway, David Nagel, Wayne Quidas, Roger Greip, Chuck Planner and Alan Planner, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Attn: Memorial Gifts, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403 or can be made online to www.cbf.org/give.
