Rita Mae Majors

NEWARK - Rita Mae Majors passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Mrs. Majors was born in Endicott, N.Y. on April 18, 1925, daughter of the late Clair Hurlburt and Margaret (Nellie) Gale Hurlburt. A talented and resourceful homemaker, she devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She especially delighted in hosting large, joyous family gatherings for many years and was always at her happiest when in the company of her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devout Christian throughout her life, Mrs. Majors was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was active in the Clothes Closet ministry. In her leisure hours, she enjoyed reading, as well as hand-stitching all sorts of beautiful needlework designs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Wilbur Leroy Majors; her granddaughter, Tammy; and her great grandson, David. She is survived by her children, David L. Majors (Nancy) of Newark, Ricky C. Majors (Cathy) of Smyrna, Kevin B. Majors (Peggy) of Bear, and Kimberly A. Ferrara (Stephen) of Middletown; siblings, Shirley Reichers of Kent, Wash., and Janice Angevine and Larry Hurlburt, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; grandchildren, Kristie, Jeannie, Denise, Kenneth, Kevin, James, Christopher, Aaron, Angela, and Teresa; and great grandchildren, Julie, Samatha, Miguel, Sean, Kyle, Amanda, Kody, Natalie, Lauren, and Nathan. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Majors may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 215 E. Delaware Avenue, Newark, DE 19711.
