CAMDEN — The Caesar Rodney High football team earned its first win of the season Saturday to snap a 20-game losing streak, dating back to the 2020 season.
Richard Smith scored two touchdowns to lead the Riders to a 26-6 victory over William Penn in a Class 3A contest. It was the final home game of the year for Caesar Rodney. who improved to 1-8 overall while William Penn dropped to 2-7.
Caesar Rodney’s last win prior to Saturday was on Nov. 27, 2020 against Cape Henlopen.
The Riders had been shut out four times this year before Saturday but Smith had the offense rolling on Saturday.
Smith added a pair of two-point conversions to go along with his touchdowns.
Maurice Satchel recorded a touchdown of his own for the Riders. Kylee Elliott contributed a field goal and one extra point.
The 26 points were the most tallied by Caesar Rodney in a game this season. Its previous high was 13 back on Oct. 14 against Cape Henlopen.
Caesar Rodney will end its season on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest at Sussex Central High.
