DOVER - Richard F. Acosta passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. Mr. Acosta was born April 6, 1932 in Niles, Calif. to the late Jessie Acosta and Lucy Chagoia Acosta. He served in the United States Air Force as a flight engineer, during the Vietnam War and the Korean War retiring in 1970 after 22 years as a MSgt. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1903, the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2, and the Air Mobility Command Museum in Dover. He volunteered for the USO of Delaware from 1991 through 1995 and was Volunteer of the Year in 1993. Mr. Acosta enjoyed golfing, traveling watching the Phillies, but especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 45years, Lillian Golden Acosta of Dover; son, Richard "Rick" Acosta, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters, Carol Jarrell of Magnolia, Myrna Hudson and her husband Hut of Laurel, and Renee Davis and her husband Mark of Memphis, Tenn.; sister, Rose Lopez of Reedley, Calif.; grandchildren, William Burge and his wife Dina, Jeffrey Oliver and his wife Melanie, Kaitlin Callaway and her husband Sean, Erin Brennan and her husband William, Jeremy Taylor, Jesse Acosta, Trey Acosta, Rene Acosta, Tiffany Williams and Jenna Busby, Josh Davis and Darrel Davis; and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 1P.M., Monday, January 5, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
