SALISBURY - Richard Joseph Elwood, Jr. died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Tarboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Richard Joseph Elwood Sr. and Evelyn Howard Elwood. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, having served from 1969 to 1973, in which time he was awarded several medals, including the following: Purple Hearts, Silver Cross, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, and Parachute Badge. He was proud to have been a Green Beret. He retired as a Clinical Supervisor for the Worcester County Health Department and was a member of Disabled American Vets. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Cross Elwood; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Reed, of Agawam, Mass., and Courtnay Lynn Hill, of Fruitland; three grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Elwood, of Duck, N.C., and Paul Elwood, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and a sister, Susan Adkins, of Georgetown. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Interment was at the Eastern Shore Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock.
