CAMDEN - Richard E. Maly, of Camden, passed away, Tuesday, July 8, 2014, in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was 77. Richard was born in New London, Conn., to the late, Charles & Lillian (Schaefer) Maly. Richard had worked in submarine research, and the Saturn V space program for General Dynamics and Lockheed Missiles, in the 1960's; He managed East Coast Sales and Marketing for Fujitsu, and was promoted in the late 1980's to director of International Sales and fiber optic manufacturers including, A.T.&T., GE, and RCA. He received his diploma from Nathan Hale and Ray schools in East Haddam, Conn., in 1955; and received his B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Hartford, in 1966. Richard was also very active civically, and in the political arena. He served on the Board of Education, from 1977 to 1980, in Freehold Township, N.J; the Camden Board of Adjustment in 2004; Camden Planning Comissioner from 2006 to 2010; Kent County Regional Planning Commission 2008 to 2012; and served as Mayor of Camden, from 2010-2012. He was a lobbyist for the Delaware Manufacturers Homeowners Association, as well as for A.A.R.P. Richard also helped organize the Barclay Farms Homeowners Civic Association in 2004, and served as president for three years. He served on the Harvest Years board of directors from 2008 to 2014; and was a volunteer web master for Barclay Farms, Harvest Years Senior Center, and Friends of Historic Camden. In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry & Vic Maly; and an infant son, Peter. Richard is survived by his wife, Marion (Sintal) Maly; five children, Theresa Ten Eyck, & husband, Gary, of Hilo, Hawaii; Christine Maly, of The Woodlands, Texas; Andrew Maly, & wife, Mary Ellen, of San Antonio, Texas; Brian Maly, of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Joan Geiling & husband, John, of Bowie, Md.; eight grandchildren, Catherine, Janice, Mark, Sarah, Lily, Alexander, Nicole, and Avery; as well as his siblings, Judith Trotochaud, & Georgianna Caminati & husband, Ronald, both of East Haddam, Conn., Thomas Maly, & wife, Pat, of Concord, N.C., Robert Maly, of Somerville, Conn. and Louise Tignor & husband, Ronald, of Glen Allen, Va. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Memorial Services will begin 2 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014 in the funeral home; with a gathering time of one hour before.
