CHESTER, PA - The Honorable Rev. George Wayne Cuff (generally known as Rev. G. Wayne Cuff) was born one of seven siblings in Chester, PA, on September 3, 1923, to loving parents, Lydia Craig and Theodore Cuff. He departed this life in Manor Care Health Services in Camp Hill, PA, on September 28, 2015, surrounded by members of his adoring family. Rev. Cuff's childhood education was in the Chester, PA, school system. He then earned a Bachelor degree from Lincoln University in Oxford, PA, prior to attending Crozer Theological Seminary, from which he earned a Master of Divinity degree. His spiritual journey began as a young boy, as he attended the St. Daniels Church in Chester, PA. Over the years, he served as an usher; sang in various choirs; and served on numerous committees. He also served in numerous other churches, including Waugh United Methodist Church in Cambridge, MD; Union Methodist Church; St. Paul Methodist Church; Simpson United Methodist Church; and Hillcrest-Bellefonte.. He was ordained as a deacon in 1953 and an Elder a couple of years later. In his leadership role as a "Pastor's Pastor" in the Peninsula Conference, Rev. Cuff served as the United Methodist Wilmington District Superintendent after serving as the Dover and Wilmington District Superintendent. Having fallen deeply in love with the beautiful Mary Elizabeth Coleman, he eagerly married her on his 33rd birthday in 1956. Prior to his religious employment, Rev. Cuff worked in a hardware store during high school, served in the U.S. Navy, and he worked at the Sinclair Oil & Gas Refinery. Those who knew him well realized just how intelligent he was. He was also very kind-hearted and generous, and loved to tell jokes that many could never figure out the punch lines. He enjoyed crossword puzzles because he was a wordsmith. He even studied the dictionary. He was known as a "fix it" man because he could reassemble anything. He also enjoyed making metal jewelry, especially rings. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. "Coleman" Cuff; and all of his siblings, Theodore Jr., James Cuff, and Alfred Cuff, and well as his 3 sisters: Eleanor, Lavenia, and Esther. He leaves to cherish his memory his two children: Hakeem Abdallah of Atlanta, GA, and Selena Simpson-McGarvey (fiancé Joshua Cobb) of Harrisburg, PA; a sister-in-law, Liz Cuff of Maryland; his five grandchildren, all of Harrisburg, PA: Anthony Fletcher, Jr. (wife Jackie); Joseph Shockley III (wife Tiffany); Marie Shockley; Sasha Winters (husband Justin); and Teresa Simpson; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Whatcoat Church, 16 N. Main Street - Camden, DE 19934.
