Drummer, Jr., 77 DOVER - Rev. Dr. Charles E. Drummer Jr., 77 passed away Mon. Nov. 4, at Bay Health Medical Ctr. after a short illness. (Ret.) Elder Drummer honorably served his country for 20 yrs before his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. Elder Drummer entered the ministry in 1961. He earned a Master of Arts in Religion from Lutheran Theological Seminary. Honors include a Doctor of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Humanities degree from Monrovia College in Monrovia Liberia, West Africa. He pastored five AME churches within Delaware and Pennsylvania before being elevated to Presiding Elder of the Wilmington District in 1992. Elder Drummer completed his appointment as Presiding Elder in April 2011. An avid model train enthusiast, he created "Drummer City" which he often shared with the community. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Zeta Rho Lambda Chapter. He was a devoted Christian, husband and father. He is survived by his wife Helen of 56 years; sisters, Edwina Coleman & Coeany Bryant (James); children, Barbara Bryan (Dannie), Charles Drummer III (Linda), Dawn Thorne, Sharon Baird (Dexter); grandchildren, Natasha Thomas, Tony Thorne, Charles Drummer IV (Patrese), Rachael Lewis (Romaine), Christopher Drummer (Danielle), Natalie Turner (Damien), Xavier Baird, Quinten Baird; great-granddaughters, Fallyn Fox, Amina Drummer, Aniya Turner, Eva Drummer; Spiritual daughter, Rita Paige and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion AME Church, 101 N. Queen St., Dover, DE.
