BRIDGEVILLE — A 51-year-old Seaford man was charged with felony assault and weapons-related counts following an incident Friday.
Delaware State Police said that, at approximately 4:17 p.m., troopers were called to the 12000 block of Jones Dogwood Drive for a reported assault. Upon arrival, an officer contacted two injured Bridgeville women, ages 54 and 36, as well as witnesses.
An investigation determined that Richard Weston had an argument with the victims about repeatedly trespassing onto their property, authorities said. During the argument, Mr. Weston allegedly retrieved a garden rake from a neighbor’s yard and assaulted the 54-year-old, causing puncture injuries to her torso. He also struck the 36-year-old in the face with his hands, causing a swollen eye and a laceration on her left hand, police said.
Both females were taken to an area hospital by ambulance for their injuries. Mr. Weston fled the area on foot prior to the trooper’s arrival, according to authorities.
Subsequently, police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, who was taken into custody later that day.
Mr. Weston was charged with second-degree assault, aggravated menacing (two counts), possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, third-degree assault and third-degree criminal trespass. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $83,050 cash bond.
