Read Across America winners

DOVER -- The Delaware State Education Association announced the winners of the 2016 Read Across America contest on Wednesday.

Grades K-3 created posters.  Grades 4-8 created posters and videos to depict the "Making a difference in the lives of others" theme from the Dr. Seuss book "Oh the Places You'll Go!"  In addition to the winners in the video category, the overall Grand Prize Winner also was a video.

The Grand Prize winner was Sarah Donald's class (grades 9-12) at Sussex Consortium with "How to Move Mountains." Students: Tyra Eskridge, Nicholas Medina, Jennifer Ornelas, Brandon Oliver, Jeremiah Sturge.  Teacher:  Sarah Donald; Paraeducator:  Marian

Grades 4-8 Video Contest:

1st Place - "Make a Difference." April Fitzgerald, H.O Brittingham Elementary (Cape Henlopen School District) - Mrs. Evans

2nd Place - Jill Szymanski's fourth-grade class "Don't be a Bully - Be a Buddy." Brandywine Springs School (Red Clay School District). Students: Gio Teoli, Samanatha Binder, Mallory Murphy, Callie Cunningham, Izzy Fennimore, Cam Terranova, Aidan O'Bryan, Brendon Southerland, Jocie Marrix, Ellie Brown & Catie Cole

3rd Place - "Oh, the Places You Will Go." Weston Williams, Lake Forest Central Elementary (Lake Forest School District) - Mrs. Emery/Mrs Isenhart.
