Ralph John Fiore

TOWNSEND, Del. - Ralph John Fiore, Sr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2013 in the comfort of his own home with his loving family by his side. Born born on April 7, 1927 in Ossining, N.Y., he was the son of the late Bernardo and Mary Pirrone (Delfino) Fiore. Mr. Fiore graduated from Ossining High School in 1944 and joined the United States Navy in 1945. He served aboard the U.S.S. Midway CV-41. After honorable discharge from the Navy in 1949, he worked in the mushroom industry with his father in Cochranville, Pa. Later, he established his own business, R.J. Fiore Mushroom Company in Kennett Square, Pa. After retiring from the mushroom industry, Mr. Fiore worked for the State of Delaware as a security officer for Governor Bacon Health Center. Upon retirement, Mr. Fiore was a resident of Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Fiore is survived by his wife, Virginia Daniels Fiore; his children, Gina M. Fiore and Ralph J. Fiore, Jr. and his wife, Sallie; two grandchildren, Hunter and River Fiore; his step-family, Jerri and Tom Cadmus, Mark and Tanya Tharp, and Barbara and Brian Schaffer; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; as well as by his sisters, Ann McGinnis and Carol Blevins; nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with Mr. Fiore's family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown. Interment will follow with full military honors in Townsend Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
