SEAFORD - R. Richard "Dickie" Thomas, Sr., age 76, of Seaford, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at his home. He was born in Bridgeville, on July 28, 1938, son of the late Charles N. and Florence (Russell) Thomas. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Katherine Ann Thomas in 1965. Mr. Thomas enjoyed a 32 year career with Verizon Delaware LLC which was formerly the Diamond State Telephone Company. Following his retirement, Mr. Thomas owned and operated the Mailroom for 17 years in Seaford. After the closing of the Mailroom, he worked privately as a packer for Estate Auctions. Mr. Thomas was a former member of the Bridgeville Fire Company where he served as past president for 11 years and was a former secretary treasurer. Mr. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Deborah M. (Phillips) Thomas; a son, Russell R. Thomas, Jr. and his wife Toni of Seaford; four daughters, April Cheesman and her husband Marty of Federalsburg, Md., Angela Willin and her husband Brian of Seaford, Amy Littleton and her husband Joseph of Bethel, Trisha Newcomer and her husband Keith of Laurel; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Adams and her husband Bunk of Seaford; a sister-in-law, Leanne Phillips-Lowe and her husband Tony; many nieces and nephews; and Mr. Thomas' beloved Cocker Spaniel companion, Tinsel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara Caniroy for her loving care and support. Memorial Services with Full Fireman's Honors will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be follow services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Thomas' memory to Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 727, Bridgeville, DE 19933 or Compassionate Care Hospice of the Delmarva Peninsula, 28467 DuPont Blvd., Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.
