FELTON - R. John "Johnny Hop" Hopkins passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. He was the son of the late Raymond and Amy Susan Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins, who was known as Johnny Hop to most people, was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534 for 30 years and a member of the Felton Fire Company. He served his community years ago by serving a term as Mayor of Felton, and serving on the town board. Johnny Hop met his wife at a Friday night dance at the Nightingale where he thought she was cute and asked her to dance. He loved to travel and go camping in his RV, and even drove across country to California. He loved wood working, and built a lot of the furniture in his house. His wood working ability allowed him to rebuild his home one room at a time. Johnny Hop was known for his sense of humor, always telling jokes and making light of his disability. You would always leave his place with a smile on your face. He loved to tease and he could always get the best of you which made you love him even more. He never knew a stranger and you would always be his friend for life. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Ann Hopkins; favorite nephew, Jimmy Boyd who was like a son; sister, Louise Potter of Felton. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
