Polytech High jumped out to a 25-point halftime lead before downing Sussex Tech, 58-22, in Henlopen North boys’ basketball on Thursday night.
The Panthers, who led 36-11 at intermission, improved to 2-0 in the North and overall.
Kyle Gamber and Dorrell Little both netted 18 points for Polytech with Xavier Brewington scoring 12.
Dover 74, Cape Henlopen 57: Junior guard Denim Perkins tallied 15 of his 20 points in the second half as the Senators rallied to win their Henlopen North opener.
Dover (2-1), which trailed 34-29 at halftime, out-scored Cape Henlopen, 45-23, in the second half. Kendall Abrams added 18 points for the Senators, Jaheim Harrell scored 16 and Taishaun Allen scored 10.
Drew Zimmerman netted 21 points to lead the Vikings.
Woodbridge 58, Delmar 51: Senior Bruce Mosley tallied 28 points in the Blue Raiders’ Henlopen South win.
Girls’ basketball
Smyrna 48, Sussex Central 29: The Eagles evened their record at 1-1 with the Henlopen North victory.
Smyrna, which used a 19-4 third-quarter run to take control, got 17 points from Kai Burnette.
Taylya Davis had a team-high 16 points for the Golden Knights.
Cape Henlopen 46, Dover 42: The Vikings built a 29-16 halftime lead before holding off the Senators in the North matchup.
The Senators out-scored Cape, 18-8, in the fourth quarter but fell short.
Freshman Amalia Fruchtman had 15 points for the Vikings with Faith Re adding 12.
Dover got 12 points from Sara Zionna Benson and 11 from Ashtyn Torbert, who hit three three-pointers.
Polytech 46, Sussex Tech 41: The Panthers went up 21-11 by halftime in picking up the North win.
Sky Naranjo (14 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists), Sierra Henry (11 points, 5 assists) and Kallie Hopkins (10 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals) all led Polytech.
The Ravens got 11 points from Maleyah Bell.
Woodbridge 64, Delmar 21: The Blue Raiders led 44-15 by halftime in the South victory.
Delaney Larrimore (20), Reghan Robinson (15) and Payton Keeler (12) led Woodbridge.
Laurel 41, Seaford 11: The Bulldogs picked up a Henlopen South victory.
Delmarva Christian 68, Odessa 19: Ainsley Bell netted 24 points with five assists and five steals to pace the Royals to the win on Wednesday.
Mia Elliott (8 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Journey Handy (6 assists, 5 steals) added 12 points apiece.
Football
Smyrna’s Knight earns state honor: Smyrna High senior receiver/running back Yamir Knight was named the state Player of the Year by MaxPreps.
The award has been given out at the state level for the past three seasons. Howard’s Kevin Ignudo and Middletown’s Braden Davis were the first two winners.
This past season, Knight ran for 793 yards and had 871 yards receiving. He scored 26 touchdowns and had 34 two-point conversions to give him 190 points for the DIAA Class 3A state chamion Eagles.
Knight also threw three TD passes.
