DOVER — The Thursday night shooting death of a 23-year-old Dover man in the Capital Green neighborhood is under investigation by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit, authorities said this morning.

According to state police, Dover Police Department officers were contacted by Bayheath-Kent General Hospital around 11 p.m. after Jason E. Mills,  suffering from gunshot wounds, had been driven to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Upon the officers’ arrival, authorities said, it was determined that Mr. Mills died from his injuries and the incident had occurred in the Capital Park development which falls under state police jurisdiction.

State police homicide detectives and evidence technicians assumed the investigation and responded to the 200 block of South Governors Boulevard where shell casings were located in a yard.

This morning, state police said the investigation was in its early stages and no further information would be immediately released.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective M. Csapo at (302) 698-8427. Information also may be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333, at www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com or by sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
