BRIDGEVILLE — A 35-year-old man was found dead early Thursday morning due to a gunshot to the head, Delaware State Police said.

Troopers were called to the 20000 block of Conrail Road by a 53-year-old female resident around 12:41 a.m. The woman reported suspects broke into the house and shots were fired, police said.

Upon arrival, police found James F. Dickerson, of Bridgeville, in the kitchen area, according to police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier. Mr. Dickerson, a guest in the home, had been shot in the head by the suspects and was pronounced dead soon after authorities arrived by Sussex County Paramedics, police said.

Master Cpl. Fournier said the suspects fled in an unknown direction after shooting the man. The other four residents were uninjured.

Police continue to investigate, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. King at 698-8561. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, visiting www.delaware.crimestoppersweb.com or sending an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
