Police identify victim in fatal Magnolia crash

MAGNOLIA - The Delaware State Police have identified the man who died in a collision that on Feb. 24, as Edward Campbell, 78, of North East, Md.

Authorities said Mr. Campbell was driving a northbound Chrysler minivan that exited Bay Road for unknown reasons and entered the grass median. The vehicle then entered the southbound lanes of Bay Road and caused a head-on collision with a Mercedes. Both vehicles caught fire due to the impact, police said.

Mr. Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mercedes driver, a 58-year-old Lewes man, was transported to an area, where he was admitted in critical condition. The Mercedes passenger, a 59-year-old Lewes woman, was transported to an area hospital, where she was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

One of two dogs inside the Mercedes died, police said.

The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Master Corporal W.
