Police identify two teens killed in Milford crash

MILFORD — The two teens who died in a fatal car crash early Thursday have been identified as Blue Evans, 17, of Dover, and Jensen Reed, 17, of Camden, police said.

In a Facebook post late Thursday, the Caesar Rodney School District said its community "joins together in mourning the untimely loss of one (of) our high school students early this morning due to a car accident."

The post added that the district is offering counseling for students through next week in its guidance offices. CRSD also pointed to the state’s 24-hour mobile crisis hotline at 800-969-4357 or by texting DE to 741741.

Dover Little League also shared its condolences on social media to the families of Jensen and Blue. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends during the difficult time! #gone2soon #DLLStrong.”

Camden-Wyoming Little League wrote on Facebook on Friday, "We want to give our condolences to the families of Jensen Reed and Blue Evans (former players in our league) who passed away in a car accident. Please  keep their families in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time."

At approximately 12:39 a.m. Thursday, Blue was driving a 2008 Jeep Patriot north in the southbound lanes of Coastal Highway, north of Brick Granary Road, approaching a left curve, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper, a spokeswoman for the Delaware State Police.

The car did not make the turn and entered a grass median, traveling north between the guardrails approaching the double-span bridge of Cedar Creek, she said.

When the Patriot struck a grass berm, it vaulted into the water between the two spans, landing on its roof, with the vehicle nearly completely submerged, she added.

Once the Patriot was removed from the water with the assistance of multiple Sussex County dive teams and Coastal Towing, Blue and Jensen were located deceased inside, Cpl. Pepper said.

The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Nicholas DeMalto at 302-703-3269. Information may also be provided by sending a message to the DSP Facebook page or by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers.
