ELLENDALE — Dolman Ubaldo Jimenez-Perez, 33, of Georgetown, was identified by Delaware State Police as the victim in a fatal motor vehicle collision Saturday.
According to police, at approximately 10:05 p.m., a 2007 Honda Accord traveling north on North DuPont Boulevard made an aggressive, high-speed lane change to avoid a vehicle in front of it. The 28-year-old operator of the Accord lost control of the vehicle, which began rotating in a clockwise direction off the east side of the highway, crashing into an unoccupied 2016 Ford Explorer, authorities said.
The operator of the Accord, who sustained critical injuries, was transported to an area hospital. Police said impairment of the driver appears to have been a factor in the incident, though toxicology results are pending.
The 19-year-old front passenger of the vehicle, who was not wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to ChristianaCare, Newark, in serious condition.
Mr. Jimenez-Perez, who was the rear passenger, was also not wearing a seat belt, police said.
The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.
