DOVER — A 20-year-old Dover man was arrested after allegedly approaching officers with a firearm as they responded to a domestic dispute Tuesday, authorities said.
Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said the incident occurred at approximately 8:39 p.m. in the 100 block of Mifflin Road. Zackary Hobbs had been reportedly throwing bricks at a property during a domestic altercation, police said.
When police arrived, Sgt. Hoffman said, Mr. Hobbs emerged from the residence with a rifle in his right hand and began approaching officers. Officers shouted commands to drop the gun and stop walking, police said. Mr. Hobbs threw the gun on the ground but continued advancing toward the officers and resisted their efforts to take him into custody, according to Sgt. Hoffman.
Mr. Hobbs was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing (two counts), resisting arrest and criminal mischief (two counts). He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $24,000 secured bond.
