FREDERICA — Police were 60 percent successful during a sweeping search for local fugitives Friday, authorities said.

According to Frederica Police Sgt. Keith Darling, 15 people with outstanding arrest warrants were apprehended, and 10 were not located.

The operation involved seven officers on two teams working from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Besides Frederica police, officers from Wyoming, Capital, Harrington and Felton also took part.

“Frederica asked other agencies to volunteer and (we have) helped other departments,” Sgt. Darling said.

He said town residents had made complaints about wanted persons in their community, prompting the roundup.

Kevin D. Shahan, 47, was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on a $2,500 secured bond resulting from a failure to appear for trial in the Sussex County Court of Common Please, Sgt. Darling said.

All those arrested were wanted on misdemeanor charges, and some warrants were issued as far back as 2014. Fugitives were taken to the Frederica Police Department and arraigned through video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach.

No resisting arrest charges were lodged against the apprehended fugitives during the operation, and no further crimes were detected, police said.

Sgt. Darling urged other fugitives to “turn themselves in or we will come arrest you and take you to jail.”

Sgt. Darling said the roundup was his first since joining the department, and operations every six month are under consideration.
